My heart soaredas I bounced up the steps to the front door and shoved it open. The pleasantly warm air from the house blasted me in the face as I walked inside from the crisp night. The scent of baking bread hit my nose, and I sighed happily. After that win tonight, everything seemed to be going my way. I tossed the puck I held in my hand, letting it flip in the air before I caught it. With a grin, I dumped my game bag on the floor and rolled my shoulders.

Wy was upstairs. I couldn’t wait to show him exactly how much I’d missed everything about being with him.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I yanked it out, chuckling.

Boss: The party is waiting for you! Why did you go home, Captain?

Shaking my head, I didn’t even bother to reply because I was pretty sure he knew exactly why I’d wanted to go home. I stuffed my phone back into my pocket and squeezed the puck tightly in my hand. A happy warmth skittered through my stomach, the same type of feeling that happened right before a big game I was certain we were going to win. After treating me like trash for a while, Wy seemed to be acting more like his old self, and I could get over the way he’d been a shit as long as he pulled his head out of his ass and didn’t leave. For a second, my mood dipped, but I shook it off.

No, I was fine with a little bit of crankiness. Hell, I couldn’t imagine how I would be acting if I’d been injured.

“There you are!” Elissa shocked me as she came through the living room carrying two mugs. The fluffy blue robe she wore made her look like some sort of friendly walking blanket with a huge blazing smile stretching across her face. I didn’t have any choice except to take the mug she offered before I wrapped an arm around her shoulders and gave her a quick hug. Her curly brown hair tickled my nose. “Congrats, honey! You were so good tonight.”

Without thinking, I sipped from the mug and the soothing warmth of hot cocoa gave me a nostalgic feeling of coming home after games when I was younger. The front door opened again, and Dad came inside with grocery bags clutched in his hand. Elissa rushed forward to take one from him, and he grinned at her, his smile so big it almost broke his face.

“They won!” Elissa said, bouncing around.

“Yeah!” Dad shook my shoulder. “The team was on fire tonight. Good job, buddy,” Dad said, shaking me all around, and stupid as it was—he would’ve been just as fast to berate me if we’d lost—I couldn’t help but be happy. Dad walked over to Elissa and whispered something in her ear that had her giggling, and together they went toward the kitchen with the grocery bags rustling between them.

I glanced at the stairs and sipped my cocoa. Wy was in his bed, lying there thinking about me—unless he was asleep. I set down the mug on the coffee table in the living room and clutched the puck tighter in my hand. With a grin, I went to my bag and pulled out a card withWystanacross the front in Rain’s scratchy handwriting, then started up the stairs. When I reached Wy’s room, I let out a long breath and tapped lightly.

Then I knocked louder.

When I got no answer, I opened the door and peeked inside.

My heart felt like it caught fire and melted as I stood there staring at Wy. His eyes were closed and even from across the room his lashes were dark against his cheeks. I tapped the puck against my chin as I stared at him. Easing into the room, I closed the door, then went over and set the puck and card on the nightstand to my left. As I watched his chest softly rise up and down, an idea blindsided me, a sexy thought so strong I stuck out a hand to catch myself, then stood awkwardly with it raised in the air. After a few seconds, I spun and rushed out of the room.

Elissa and Dad were still downstairs talking to each other. I could hear her laughter ringing around the bottom level of the house, so I hurried to Dad’s office to grab what I wanted. I snuck in and stole a wingback leather chair from the corner near his bookshelf. As I picked up the solid furniture, my muscles let me know I’d spent a couple of hours using them, but I didn’t care as I hurried back to the bedroom with my sneaky prize. I set the chair beside the bed and positioned it so that it was angled slightly toward Wy.

Excitement careened through my body and I grinned. After my win, I was still riding high on victory, and this was going to make it even sweeter. I watched Wy as I went over to the door and locked it, and he was sexy in the golden glow of the lamplight. For a few moments, I leaned against the wall and watched him, my stomach tightening and my cock pushing out the front of my suit pants.

With a smirk, I went over to the bed again, snatched the puck, and then lifted the blankets to slide underneath them at his side. I was careful not to jostle his knee and watched his face as I curled my fingers under the hem of his T-shirt. His skin was warm and soft as my fingertips trailed along it. I pulled the fabric up until it rested just under his nipples. This was going to be good. I dropped the cool puck on his tight abs.

Wy gasped and his eyelids flew open. He slapped his hand over mine and squeaked as he elbowed me. I laughed and let him pull the puck out from underneath the blanket. He glared at it, then me. Our gazes clashed, and he walloped me on the shoulder with the puck hard enough that it ached, but I totally deserved it.

“You ass,” he said, but there wasn’t much heat in his words.

“That’s yours.” I nodded at the puck and smirked. “We won the game with that puck.”

Wy lifted the black puck and scrutinized it like the cold lump of rubber was something strange and magical. For a second or two, I worried that I’d said the wrong thing, but he grinned and tossed the puck into the air before catching it.

“I watched.” He nodded at the blank TV across the room. “You looked great out there,” he said, voice rough.

My heart fluttered and I cleared my throat. While he studied me, I reached over and snatched the card off the nightstand. Wy cocked his head to the side and pursed his lips as he took the card from me. The anxiety that had wriggled into my gut faded away as he opened the envelope and a small smile took over his face.

“Rain got the team to sign it for you,” I said, staring at the glitteryGet Well Soonon the front.

He nodded and handed the card back to me, and I dropped it on his nightstand again.

Wy’s attention drifted to the chair and his eyebrows furrowed. “What’s that for?”

“Showing you how much I miss you,” I said.

My pulse thundered in my ears as I studied his face. A potent heat crawled through me as he brushed his fingertips across my forehead and into my hair. He tilted his chin, and I couldn’t do anything else, except lean in and kiss him. Sometimes we had a rough energy when we did this, and when that happened, I could tell he wanted me to shove him against the wall and fuck him, but tonight he was soft and sweet underneath me. I pressed him back against the pillow, and a wildfire blazed through my stomach.

Every piece of tonight had been perfect, and nowthis.

What had I done to deserve Wy?
