“See, that was Spooky.”

His face squinted with doubt. “That’s kind of a stretch, don’t you think?”

She pulled the dinner she had sent over out of the small fridge under the counter and placed it in the basket, along with plates, napkins, and utensils. “Jenni also wished Bryce would come back, and he did, and Pippi wished for a puppy.” She gestured out the window toward the little girl and her dog in the park.

“So you’re saying Spooky grants wishes.”

“Yep. But you have to be careful what you wish for,” she said, thinking of Jenni’s words. “Or who knows what chaos could ensue.”

Jimmy pulled her into his arms. “I wish for you and me to live happily ever after.” He turned to Spooky. “You hear that?”

Spooky slow blinked at him.

She smiled. He heard. Then she kissed him. “I wish for that too.”

“I got something for you,” he said.

“You did? What?”

A sparkle of excitement lit his eyes. “Come over here.” He led her into the second room, and hanging above the fireplace was a painting of her holding Spooky in her arms.

She gasped in surprise. “Jimmy, it’s beautiful.”

He looked pleased. “Do you like it?”

“Like it? I love it.”

“Good. Merry Christmas, sweetheart.” He pulled her into his arms and kissed her deeply.

As she broke the kiss, she wondered how she got so lucky, and how would she ever get him a gift that could rival that?

“You know, I’m pretty sure you owe me a home-cooked dinner,” he said, looking down at her.

She grinned up at him. “Is that right?”

“Yep, according to Brianna, I raised more money for Jenny’s foundation than you did.”

“Only because of my brilliant ideas.”

“Maybe, but that doesn’t change the fact that I won.”

She wrapped her arms around his middle and pulled her to him. “You sure did.”

He leaned down and kissed her again. “You’re right. I did win. I got you.”

The End.
