Lust she was too innocent to try and hide.

“I need you to be a good girl for me,” I rasped, and she shuddered, My lungs seized. She was into my dirty talk. “I need you to be a good girl for me and wait for me in my truck.

“Why?” she whined, almost with a pout.

“Juniper—"

“I’m an adult, and I know what I—" I wanted to shut her up with my mouth. Instead, I pressed my fingers to her lips. If she told me she wanted me, there would be no denying her.

“I’m trying to be good here, Juniper.” Her eyes grew sad, and it fucking killed me. “Don’t look at me that way, baby girl.” I sighed. She kissed the tip of my finger before pulling away.

“You don’t want me.” Her lip wobbled. “I understand—“ she started to whisper, but I was already shaking my head. There was no way I’d let her believe that.

“The hell you do,” I groaned, pressing my forehead against hers. It was like my body was in control, and I couldn’t stop touching her. Couldn’t keep enough distance between us. “You feel that?” My nose flared at knowing she could feel my bulge straining against her.

“Dash!” she gasped, and my teeth mashed together.

“I want you so fucking much it hurts.” To add emphasis because I was fucking bastard, I grabbed her hand and pressed it against my groin. My dick jerked at the feel of her warm delicate hand. The tip leaked like it had sprung a leak. “You feel that? My cock has been throbbing for you for almost three years.”

“You remember.”

“Baby girl, daddy remembers everything about you.” Her breathing changed, but she didn’t slap me away. If anything, it almost felt like her hand tightened around me before it rose to slip between us. The tips of her fingers rested over my heart, the very spot where she lived. “There is nothing about you I could ever forget, angel. From the day we met to the day you pretended your car broke down.”

“You knew I was…” My brow rose, and she blushed.

“Everything. I’ve made it my mission to watch over you.”

“Dasher.”

“And you’ve known it.” She swallowed and nodded, confirming my suspicion, and hope bloomed. “But the fact is I’m forty-five, sweetheart, and you’re twenty-four.”

“Almost twenty-five,” she cut me off. “I’m almost—“

“I know,” I strained. She had no idea that was the date I had given myself to take her. Days away. “Shh, please,” I begged and watched her swallow the questions I knew were swimming and swirling inside her head.

“Okay,” she whispered and took a step back. Almost like she knew I wasn’t capable of doing it myself.

What are you doing?the voice in my head shouted while my heart and body agreed. My mind stayed quiet, glaring at me as I stood there like some kind of idiot while she put the roller down, picked up her things, and walked out of my place. Our place.I ran my fingers through my hair and tugged at the ends. What the hell was I doing? I had her right there within my reach. She looked up at me like she was ready for me to take her, to kiss her. And what did I do?

I kicked her out.

“What are you doing, you fucking idiot?” I muttered to myself, turning to grab my keys and wallet. I walked out to the truck disappointed I hadn’t been able to even open the door for her.

She sat in the cab quietly staring out the window while I drove her back. The closer I got to her place, the slower I went. Everything inside of me was yelling at me to take a chance. To take her.

She was right there. I’d be able to talk her into loving me, and if she couldn’t, I’d fucking love her enough for the two of us. All I wanted in life was to love and make her happy.

I put my truck inParkin front of her place. She didn’t hesitate as she reached to unbuckle her seatbelt, and my hands sprung to action.

“Juniper.” My voice cracked like I was some kind of teenager instead of an over forty-year-old man. But she didn’t look at me, and I hated it. I hated what a fucking mess I’d made of the morning.

“Please let me explain, honey.”

“You don’t need to,” she muttered under her breath. My hand covered hers.

“I do. Look… I went to the Barrel. I figured you would probably be surrounded with friends and… I’m so much older than you. I brought you flowers. Pink roses because I’d seen you in town earlier wearing a cute little pink dress.” Her body jolted, but she didn’t look at me. Her gaze was set low, staring at my hand over hers. I gently pulled it away from the buckle and held it with both hands, yet she still wouldn’t look at me. “I got there and parked and—" I swallowed.

“Not a lot scares me, baby girl, but I froze. I’m man enough to admit I got scared. I’ve kept my distance, and I have a feeling we both know that.” That one earned me her gaze. It slowly rose and met mine.
