“You’re the only one immune, huh?” His eyes are laughing.

“I’m the only one who sees you as a person, and not some otherworldly god.”

“Thank heaven for you,” he chuckles, and starts to back up towards the shower as he finishes cleaning his teeth. “Because I am most certainly not a god, and I break.”

I grin and retreat. “You can wear my robe when you get out. Back of the door. Don’t use the expensive conditioner in the gold pot. You can use everything else.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

I close him inside and can hardly stop smiling. Albie Hart would use my toothbrush to make himself more presentable for me! And I thought he might be in there shooting up or snorting coke.

He sings in the shower and most certainly takes his time. While ordering food, I have to take a deep breath and say out loud, “Albie Hart’s in my bathroom, but it’s okay. He’s just a bloke you’re feeding and temporarily housing.”

When he emerges, I’ve only just managed to put our order through. I couldn’t decide what to order him or if I should order a few different choices, and then I got derailed thinking about how all this time, it wasn’t him who’d put the brakes on. It was Sharon.

“Thanks, that feels much better,” he says, and I turn to look at him.

Albie’s in my pink towelling robe which is ankle length for me, but just below the knees for him. He gives a lopsided grin and I put my fingers to my lips and pinch them together.

I want to say something but I don’t know if I should.

“What’s up?” he asks.

“Do I have to say it?” I feel embarrassed.

“Erm, I think so. It might be best you speak plainly.” He seems confused. My mixed signals, probably.

I try to stop myself saying it, pinching my lips together, but his eyes are dancing and I can’t help myself saying, “I want you to kiss me.”

He blinks rapidly and cocks his head. Then it’s him holding a hand over his mouth, trying to figure out the situation.

I’ll be damned if we waste any more time, not when he virtually admitted he wants me, and I most certainly want him.

Walking closer, I look up into his eyes, then reach out to hold the sleeves that are nearly halfway up his arms. Albie slowly lifts his hands to cup my face and searches my eyes, then looks at my mouth, my eyes again… my mouth.

“I want to kiss you,” he says nervously.

“Then kiss me.”

I close my eyes and hold my hands at his trim waist.

The way he proceeds to kiss me is too good. He caresses his way across my top lip gently, as if mapping every bit of my mouth. My bottom lip is next and his warm breath mingles with my own as he kisses me so softly.

“Albie.” A strangled cry escapes me.

His hands leave my face and he grips my lower back with one hand, my hair with another. His tender kisses gradually become more passionate and I lift on my tiptoes to wrap my arms around his head and neck, pulling him tight to me. We barely part except to catch our breath as we kiss deeply, tasting hungrily. My belly is on fire and I can feel the effect I’m having on him, too.

When he pulls away I nearly weep, but he only slows down to hold my cheeks again, his kisses still deliciously soft and passionate. He’s kissing me like I’m his lover, not just someone off the street. I feel like I mean something to him.

He stops and I look up into his eyes, swallowing thickly when I see what’s staring back: a man who’s having to fight his urges, a man who more than likes what he sees.

The doorbell goes and I cannot believe the timing. Bloody efficient takeaway!

“You’d better… not be seen,” I murmur, though he’s still stroking my face and I’m on my tiptoes sharing breath with him.

“Food?” he guesses.

“Yes.”
