Since the exchanges between Legs and himself appear to go back years, and as I recall vividly, most of them include,Bending you over your desk… you take my dick like a real bossetcetera.

His jaw locks and he has to rub it. “She doesn’t know my so-called wife is up the duff, no. She’s married, too. She’s not bothered about the… but the baby might be a sticking point.”

“More a parting point, I’d say.”

He laughs like a crazy person, with no real hilarity in his eyes. “Chrissy might stop letting me shag her for a bit, but she’ll never get rid of me. I’m her crutch. She can’t survive that place without me.”

I’m disgusted with him and don’t try to hide it. “You need help, it’s an addiction.”

“I reckon a woman like you could cure me, put me off any others for life.”

His jaw locks again, then a muscle feathers in his beautiful jawline and I wonder… wouldn’t it be nice if I could believe that?

But like everyone else, I was taken in by the thought that I’m unique; that he only wants me.

I was the person in his sights… feeling so confident of myself and so sure he was all about me. No other woman could turn his head. How foolish we are to think that men like Miles might ever prioritise anyone else above themselves.

“I want you to be aware Miles, that I can bury you at any moment.”

He smirks like, how would you do that, then?

“Don’t believe me, then. It’ll be your mistake.” I hold his gaze as he stands and folds his arms, glaring threateningly. “That’s why you can’t help but like me. You’re ill with all the lies. You’ve wanted someone to find out. But you made the mistake of it being me who’s found out. Not only am I not dumb enough to be fooled, but I’m also clever enough to bring you down. Believe me.”

“Oh, I believe you,” he says, snarling, “because you can’t have worked with that bitch Sharon all those years without picking up a thing or two.”

He is more than accurate about that.

Seeing that I’m not going to be cowed, and that before him stands the one thing that might unravel all his dirty tricks, he tries to come at me. Yet with him being so slow with lethargy, I manage to easily grab his arm and pull it backwards. He falls to his knees instantly in alarm in a bid to get me to stop.

“If I pull just a little bit harder, your arm will dislocate,” I warn, my eyes searing into his.

“What are you?” he asks, afraid.

Leaning forward slightly, I blow air across his face, then suddenly shout, “Boo!”

In his terror, he tries to pull away but realises if he does, his arm will in fact dislocate.

“I’m something you couldn’t imagine, not even in your worst nightmares.” I laugh sadistically. “I mean, if you want, I can circulate your picture and have most decent bars, pubs and clubs in London bar you from their premises… if I tell them you tried to assault me. Since I’m a fairly well-respected bouncer around town and have an unlimited resource at the touch of a button.” I flick one eyebrow up and glare. “That’ll be several other bouncers’ numbers in my phone, by the way.”

He gulps and nods for me to let go; he’s not going to hurt me.

Shaking out his limbs, he gets dressed and stares at the floor.

“What do you want me to do?” he says, his eyes betraying cold fury.

“Either be honest with your wife and let her know about your true self, or, stop shagging around and be her husband.”

He pulls a revolting smirk that makes me want to throw him out of a window. “You’re a sadist. I never wanted to marry her. I always, always use a rubber… but for some reason, the contraception didn’t work.”

“Nobody gives a fuck about you, Miles. Start living honestly, or I’ll come for you. I swear.”

“You can’t know everything,” he says, grinning darkly.

“Try me.” I toss a dark grimace back at him, showing him just how little I give a shit for his mundane brainwashing tactics.

He dashes for the door, grabbing his jacket on the way. I’m standing by the dining table, ready to pour myself another glass of wine, when he turns to look back at me over his shoulder.

“Trust that the only woman to make me feel a twinge of love would be someone even more cold and calculating than myself.”
