She’d become pretty proficient since the last time he’d heard her play.

Mom and Dad had obviously noticed the ring on Amy’s finger but hadn’t said a word. More than likely because they were waiting for Amy and Lex to say something about it themselves.

Lex and Amy retired a little early on Christmas Eve so that they could wrap presents for the family. Another half hour later, they were settled in Lex’s room with all the gifts spread out across the bed. Somehow, Brownie had managed to burrow in near the headboard.

Suddenly, there was a knock on Lex’s bedroom door.

“Who is it?” Amy called out.

“It’s Zane,” he answered. “Is it alright to come in?”

“Sure,” Lex said. “Your gift is already wrapped.”

Zane grinned when he opened the door. “I was afraid I might be interrupting something.”

Amy laughed because she and Lex were sitting with a card table between them in front of the fireplace wrapping a slew of presents.

“Mom and Dad are wrapping too since the kids went to bed, and Caleb and Matt are off somewhere doing something sneaky for tomorrow, I think. We’re supposed to meet back in front of the big screen in another thirty minutes to watch a movie and catch up,” Zane admitted. “Everyone has sure grown up.”

“That’s for sure,” Lex agreed. “I’ve visited for a night or two here and there, but each time I come back, I notice so many changes, especially with the twins.”

Zane sat for a while in one of Lex’s recliners, talking with them about nothing in particular.

Finally, he stood. “What time are we on for tomorrow, Lex?”

“I’ve got everything set up for four. Will that be alright? What time do you have to leave?”

“I can wait until the following morning. Now that I’m here, I hate the idea of leaving. It’s kind of a lonely life,” Zane admitted.

Amy smiled. “Even with all those women chasing after you?”

“Because of it sometimes,” Zane replied, becoming serious.

“Aw, Zane,” Amy said, standing to give him a hug. “We miss you. Please come home more often.”

He kissed her on the forehead. “I might just do that, Amy.”

When Zane left the room, Amy looked at Lex with curiosity once again. “You still won’t tell me what you’re planning?”

Lex started laughing. “That’s like the hundredth time you’ve asked.”

“What if I make it a hundred and one?”

Lex laughed harder.

Epilogue

Christmas morning was full of surprises, including Harry walking in through the back door.

“Haaweey,” Amy squeaked, sounding just like she had as a kid.

Grinning, Harry shook his head in obvious amusement. “Amy.Wow,look at you. You’re beautiful. Although you haven’t grown much.”

Laughing, Amy punched him lightly in the arm before he took her into his arms, hugging her tightly.

Harry approached Lex, looking him up and down.

Suddenly, he tugged him into his arms, slapping him hard on the back.
