“I don’t understand why they get to be here,” I hear Juliette comment to her friends, loud enough for me to hear.

I watch as Caleb casually turns his head to her. “Because the Knights deem it to be.”

Genna scoffs. “Let it be known that the Queens of Zeta Sigma Rho don’t agree with the decision.”

Caleb smiles at her, removing his arm from her waist. “Duly noted,Queen.”

He accentuates the last word like it’s dirty and walks towards the bar. He leans his forearms against the counter and talks over his shoulder. “You’re still bound by the decision.”

I watch for a few more minutes until I feel someone bump my shoulder. “See, I told you everything was going to be okay.” Taylor’s eyes are lit with smug satisfaction.

I roll my eyes. “The night isn’t over yet, Taylor. Don’t start counting victories just yet. How about I take Celeste to the dance floor so that we don’t have to tempt the vultures?”

He nods his head in agreement. “I’ll meet you guys out there in a minute. I’m gonna go say hi.”

Celeste and I push through the crowded dance floor, both of us eager to let the music take us away. We take turns dancing at each other’s back, shutting down any guy who tries to join our bubble. Her laughter is enough to know that Taylor was right to push us to come out tonight. Music and dancing just does something to our souls.

The DJ starts the hip hop portion of the night with Machine Gun Kelly’s “Rap Devil”, and the dance floor fills with more people. Someone passes a blunt to me, but before I can take a hit, I feel Celeste completely freeze.

I look down and then follow the direction she’s staring to see Justin standing mere feet from where we are, eyes glued on Celeste. Less than a second later, Juliette pushes through the crowd from behind him and grabs his arm while Taylor pops up on our right, wrapping his hands around Celeste’s waist. From where I’m standing, I watch as Justin and Cele both try to act as if they didn’t just share a moment.

Celeste turns to adjust her position to include Taylor in our dancing bubble and glances in my direction. Her chocolate brown eyes go wide in shock, and at the same time, an arm reaches over my shoulder and the blunt that I’m holding is ripped from my hands.

What the fuck?

I turn just in time to see Elijah drag deeply on the blunt, his storm gray eyes darken with promise as he blows thick smoke in my face. He’s so close that his chest brushes against mine, and my stomach tightens. A slow smirk glides across his face, electrifying the air around us and emanating danger.

Nope. I’m not doing this.

I whip back around to Celeste and Taylor. “I’m gonna get a drink,” I shout.

Celeste nods, grabs Taylor’s belt buckle, and drags him behind us as I just walk off the dance floor without a second glance at the asshole I just left behind.

Stepping off the dance floor, I feel eyes on me from the opposite direction of where I left Elijah. I casually look over in that direction, and my eyes land on Caleb. His eyes are intensely watching me as I make my way to the bar. I roll my eyes, wishing I could just make him disappear—or stab him again.

When we get to the bar, I start pouring shots of whiskey. Cele flops onto a bar stool, puffing out her breath and wiping the sweat from her brow. Taylor strides up next to her with a smile that literally looks like it’s permanently fixed in place.

Well, he’s having a good time.

I slide shots to them and down my own in one go. I start pouring a second when Taylor decides to open his mouth.

“That wasn’t so bad, was it?” Taylor asks, flipping his empty shot glass over. “You can thank me later for a wonderful night,” he says with a wink.

I swear to the universe I want to punch him, but I glare at him instead. Does he not understand my fury every single time Elijah is in the same room?

My body is a complete walking contradiction. Feeling Elijah that close does something to my libido, despite the fact that I genuinely want to kill him. Hmm… I’m not into necrophilia, but it makes me wonder if I could fuck him while I’m killing him—like bleed him out or choke the life out of him while I ride him? Is that a thing?

I shake my head to clear my thoughts and down another shot.

What the hell is wrong with me?

I chance another look in Caleb’s direction only to find him still watching me from the same position he was in a few minutes ago. He’s casually sitting on one of the leather sofas in the room, and unfortunately, still staring at me with eyes that look like they’re glowing gold with the lighting in the room.

I straighten my shoulders and cock an eyebrow in his direction with fake confidence before turning back to make actual drinks for Cele and myself.

Now that I know he’s there watching me, I keep fighting the urge to look back. I desperately try to pay attention to whatever the hell Taylor and Celeste are talking about, but eventually, my curiosity wins out.

I slide my eyes over to the sofas, and sure enough, the fucker is still staring. He looks like a Greek god with his golden hazel eyes. His sleeves are rolled up to his elbows, and the fabric of his button-up stretches across his broad chest.
