As soon as we come into view, whatever they were saying is forgotten and Celeste stumbles to a halt. I, on the other hand, have run out of every last bit of patience I have for today. I’m sure as hell not going to stick around for whatever bullshit Elijah is likely to throw.

I grab Celeste’s hand and walk straight through them, forcing them to get out of my way. When I pass by Elijah, he leans his shoulder in my path, and I just shoulder check him. Ultimately, moving him out of my way.

I can hear Celeste giggle when he curses under his breath, and it makes me smile.Yea, asshole. I’m not as delicate as I look.We get to the hallway that connects the dining hall to the academics building when I legitimately run into Taylor and Caleb around the corner.

“Hey ladies, where you going?” Taylor asks in his usual playful and carefree tone.

My eyes bore into his. “Off campus. Call an Uber and have it meet us at the main gate.”

“But you have classes this afternoon, don’t you?”

“Taylor. Uber. Downtown,” I snap, pulling Celeste behind me.

I walk right in between them, effectively ignoring Caleb. I’ve had enough of him today. Scratch that. I’ve had enough of him for the rest of the goddamn year.

“Please and thank you would work,” Taylor shouts at my back.

I raise my middle finger in the air without bothering to look back, and his laughter echoes down the ornate old hallway. “Love you too, Eves. It’ll be out front in ten minutes.”

Once we’re at the main gates, Celeste pulls her hand from my sweaty one.

“Earth to Evie. We have classes this afternoon. What are you doing?”

I stare at the gate, watching as the Uber driver pulls into the circular driveway, and answer her, “No, we don’t. I’ll do whatever work you miss, but we’re done for the day. I’ll even let you take me shopping.”

I didn’t mean to offer the shopping part, but she eagerly nods her head in agreement and gets into the car. The prospect of going shopping is all the encouragement she needs.

“You got it, bitch. Let’s go shopping.”

Dammit. Why did I have to choose shopping?

Celeste hands me the tiniest pair of designer shorts that would barely cover my ass. “Here, try these shorts on. They’re super freakin’ cute.”

“You’re joking, right? They look like underwear.”

She rolls her eyes at my reaction. “They’re fashionable, and you have killer legs.”

“Not happening.” I shake my head, and she reluctantly puts them back on the rack.

She strolls around the small boutique and decides that there’s nothing ‘speaking to her’.Whatever the hell that means.

“Is there anything that you want to try on here?” she asks.

I just stare at her for a second before rolling my eyes. Shopping is clearly not my thing.

“Okay, fine, let’s go next door.”

Apparently, going shopping with Celeste requires us to go into every single boutique, store, or shop on the block.

The door chimes as we enter a little shoe boutique that has nothing but stiletto death traps on display.Christ. Why do women wear those?

Celeste squeals as she runs to a pair of teal, strappy stilettos. She tenderly picks them up and turns to me. “I have been waiting for these for months. I can’t believe they have them.”

“Those shoes are ridiculous. Where the hell are you going to wear those?”

Her eyes grow wide in horror, and she places one hand on her chest. “What is this blasphemy you speak of? They’re beautiful. Who the fuck cares where I wear them or even if I wear them?”
