I should have waited until we were back at the house to kiss her. But I couldn’t. Not after she told me she liked having my arms around her. I almost couldn’t believe it when she said that to me, but the look in her eyes was too genuine to ignore.

I shake my head. “Don’t worry about that right now. I’ll hold the rental for you for the next twenty-four hours, and I’ll get a lease sent over to you this afternoon. Take your time reading it over, and then we’ll move forward from there.”
“That sounds great,” says Josie.
I shake both of their hands, smile at the newborn wrapped up against Josie, and walk them out. As Lolly and Josie hug goodbye, Josie says to her, “Thanks so much for arranging this, Lolly. I owe you one.” Then Josie leans in and whispers something to her, and Lolly’s face flushes as she laughs.

“No.” She chews on her lip a little. “Let’s go home.”
I try not to speed on the way back, but I still end up pushing it. As soon as we’re parked in front of the house, I get out and rush around the front of my truck so I can open the passenger door for her. I can tell from the way she smiles at me that she likes that. “I tried to let you know.”
