“Right. Your soulmate.”

I pretend I don’t notice Sebastian’s tone, as he’s referring to my brother. I stay the hell out of it. Bella straightens her spine.

“So, how about you, pussy?” she echoes Cad, sassy as ever.

She fits in among my brother’s friends, and us, and everyone else, because of her magnetic personality, and her innate confidence. We’re a lot, but she can take us on. A gift Ivy doesn’t share. Their natures are so different it’s a wonder they’re related. If they didn’t look so similar, I’d doubt it. By contrast, my brother and I are practically the same person within, though we don’t have much physical similarities.

“I’m with Hux. I’ll take the seventeen chicks. The more the merrier. I don’t know one single pussy worth more than all the others put together.”

That got a lot more personal than necessary. Honestly, I’d rather they wouldn’t do this weird dance in front of me. It’s awkward as fuck. The only reason why I don’t say anything is because they’re just as full of tension around Nic.

Nicolai knows Bella has a thing for Sebastian. And he likes it. He loves the fact that someone as powerful, beautiful, rich as a Noble wants something that belongs to him.

I actually understand that, but personally, it would drive me insane if Ivy looked at anyone the way Belstriesnot to look at Seb.

If Nic isn’t careful, he could lose her.

Not the way I lost Ivy—because I scared her. That was always going to be temporary. You know what they say: if you love something, let it go. And I did, certain she’d come back to me.

Ivy has been stuck in my web from the first time I met her, long before she was mine.

But Bella? She could very well choose Sebastian.

I hope she realizes she’d be digging shallow graves if she tries.

“How about you, poison? How will you die?” I ask her, if only to move on from the tension.

“I don’t care so long as you go first,” she immediately snaps.

I grin, and watch her flush.

“I mean…I didn’t mean—”

Too late, poison.

I run my hand on the length of her thighs, over her soft jeans. “Romeo and Julietit is. There are worse ways to go, if you ask me.”

It’s funny. She’s letting me get handsy out of propriety, to avoid causing a scene, unaware that I could peel all of her clothes, pin her to the table and drive right into her, no one would even stop playing cards. Except maybe her sister, but only because Bella’s protective of Ivy. If it had been any other girl, she wouldn’t have budged either.

Ivy’s the only outsider here.

For now.

SIXTEEN

Ivy

He’s freaking impossible. And why the hell can’t he stoptouchingme?

My thigh. My ear. And now my neck. Why is his nose on my damn neck?

“Are you sniffing me?” I hiss in a whisper.

“Maybe,” he replies, tilting his head; his nose’s in my hair and his mouth on the inch of skin my turtleneck doesn’t cover. “I missed your smell.”

My theory is that he was kidnapped by aliens and experimented on. They left something that might look and talk and move like Alessandro, but clearly, its entire personality is wrong. And weird.

And why is it so hot here?
