“Nah, it’s good.” I shrug. “Don’t do it again, but it’s good. We needed to talk; you made it happen.”

There were only a few sips left at the bottom, so I drop the first bottle and open the second.

“And she’s fine. Agreed to play with me, in fact.”

Basil gasps like a chick. Caden chuckles. Hux gives me a thumbs-up.

I focus on Hawk, who leans in, interlinking his fingers.

“Do tell,” Basil insists.

“Might have said I’d fuck Bels if she wasn’t available.”

Now, Caden laughs his ass off. “You’d never fuck Bels.”

“Obviously.” The very thought makes me grimace. It’s as appealing as the idea of seeing my mother with her tits out.

I saw her grow up; not the same way as with Ivy. We’re a couple of years apart, and the two of us grew up together—but the seven years between Belladonna and I makes the idea of even seeing her fuck so disgusting my semi immediately dies in my pants.

And sure, Sebastian fancies her, but for one, he’s Caden’s little brother, two years our junior, and secondly, he only met her properly a year ago, when she already had tits and an ass on her.

“Butshedoesn’t know that,”I conclude.

“The great Alessandro, having to blackmail a chick to get his pecker wet,” Caden taunts, delighted.

I’ve overplayed the middle finger, so I toss the champagne’s muselet at his face—and unlike Ivy, I don’t miss.

After a moment of hesitation, I tell them, “She gave me the green light. I quote: I can dowhatever I want.”

Caden whistles. “Nice.”

After serving the last glass and taking another sip of Dom, I turn to Hawk. “I’m gonna need you.”

“Hey!” Caden protests. “Whyhim?”

It’s my turn to be a smug dick. “Because you’re an asshole, and he’s prettier than you.”

We all laugh.

It’s been too long since we’ve done this. I’m always at the hospital, Caden works a hundred hours per week at the law firm to pull his weight as the newest hire, Hux travels with his team for games, Osborn is twice as busy as the rest of us as a new dad with twins and no partner to help, and Hawk is…Hawk. The guy can disappear for a month while composing, or whatever he does in his dark rooms with bottles of vodka and cigarettes. We haven’t gotten together like this in ages. It means the world to me they all came when I asked.

I made many dumb mistakes in the past with Ivy, and I can’t afford to this time. The one thing I didn’t have the first time around was the guys. They’ve never steered me wrong before, and I knew I was going to need them for this.

I was right.

I remember the hurt in Ivy’s eyes when she pointed toward them, practically shaking as she accused me of never having introduced her before.

I genuinely never thought she would have wanted to meet them. She was actively avoiding them—us—back then.

And I start to understand a fundamental problem we had.

Not just miscommunications and different ideas of where we were going, as I’d first gathered, but also the fact that she was never part of my life—or I, of hers. Frankly, back then, she didn’t have much of a life to be part of.

What about now?

“Time to get to work,” I say, grabbing my phone. “We have half an hour before dinner.”

I open the comprehensive file I had her surveillance team put together overnight, and start to read out loud.
