“Yes, please,” I grumble.

If I have to deal with the gentlemanly version of Less every paparazzi gets, he might as well serve it by the pint.

The game soon descends into chaos. Everyone cheats, especially Caden, though no one can actually prove it. That man is sneaky, but there’s no way he amassed twice as much as the rest of us put together honestly.

“I think I hate you,” I tell him.

He grins. “And here I thought you reserved such extremes for our man.”

I don’t take the bait.

But I do cheat on the next round, taking a five hundred instead of a fifty from the bank.

Less’s gaze follows my hand, and slowly slides to my eyes. I cock a brow, daring him to say something.

He brings his glass to his lips and takes a sip, keeping his mouth otherwise closed. When I do it again at the next round, he finally smirks.

I grin victoriously. I really fucking hate when he’s acting like we’re just strangers. For better or worse, we’ve never been that.

The other guys are too busy insulting and threatening each other to catch me, and my sister’s too busy making out with her side piece under the table to pay much attention to what’s happening on top of it, so I get away with it again and again.

Towards the end of the game, I go further, taking a thousand bucks this time. Still nothing from anyone except Less, who just rolls his eyes.

“All right!” Caden says, rubbing his hands together. “Time to count the points.”

“I’m never playing with you again,” Hux vows, pouting at his meager pile of bills.

Hawk grabs a notepad. “All right, gimme your numbers.”

“We’re not recording that,” Osborn grumbles. “Caden got half of the orange properties and one pink by the fifth turn!”

“What can I say? I’m talented,” he shrugs, ever so humble. “Twenty-seven thousand eleven dollars.”

“Fuck you!” Hux yells.

“Come on. Spit it out. It’s not over until we all have our numbers on the books, you know that.”

“Why is that so important?” I wonder.

“That would be because we keep track of all the games we play—and whoever has the most wins gets to give a dare to everyone else at the end of the year,” Less tells me. “We’re mature like that. As you can imagine, it gets pretty intense in December.”

“Thirteen days to go, huh?” I say, mentally calculating the days left.

Today’s the nineteenth.

“Oh, yeah,” Osborn replies. “Last year, Cad made us jump in the fucking river, back in town.”

My jaw drops. “No! Wasn’t it frozen over?”

The asshole shrugs. “I had someone make a hole first.”

“And the year before that, Less had us running around the palace naked at midnight.”

That can’t possibly be true. “There are tons of people in the street, at the gate of the royal palace!”

Less snorts. “They’re too far to really see what’s going on around the building.”

No wonder the game is that animated. “Well, I’m glad I’m not in the running.”
