“I’m telling you to look at her,” she reaffirms.

That’s not a hard thing to do when Vio is right there to take it in. Her face is already more confident than when she was playing against Letty.

“See?” Her head tilts.

“Yea, I do.”

“Exactly. This is how she plays when she isn’t distracted.” Sofia’s face is firm.

I still instantly with my hand in Marrisa’s. Her bored expression from earlier is now filled with questions.

This is awkward and of course, Sofia had to mention this right next to her.

“If I were you, I would get your boyfriend to stop distracting my athlete.” She must have noticed my attention on Marrisa, making the blow even more devastating.

Marrisa quirks her eyebrow, but her posture is more uncomfortable than ever.

Sofia sits back down, looking as Violetta serves again.

A serve I can’t see when Marrisa starts to ask me questions. “What does she mean?” she says quietly.

“I distracted Vio when we were in Australia. Sofia blames me.”

“Distracted her how?”

I can’t even imagine what’s going through Marrisa’s brain. I don’t even want to know because technically my connection is the worst of it.

I may not have cheated on her physically, but everyone knows that cheating emotionally is worse. It’s a connection that becomes irreplaceable and she most likely isn’t even imagining the most unfavorable of circumstances.

That’s even scarier than her thinking I had sex with Vio.

Which I haven’t.

“I took her out for dinner before her match the next day and she was really tired. The exhaustion took over and my actions apparently led to her loss,” I tell her.

Marrisa looks indecisive for a second. “But how is that all your fault? It doesn’t make sense.”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying.” I flash her a grin.

She blushes as always. “Well, I don’t think that’s your fault.” Leaning her head on my shoulder, she takes my side.

I didn’t tell her the whole truth.

Me, Vio, and apparently Sofia knows the truth. I doubt Vio told her anything and Jeff is too chill to care.

How does she know?

I’ve been asking myself that question for days now. Not even me and Vio can talk through our own feelings.

But apparently, Sofia has made her own conclusion before the two main people in the situation could.

It’s embarrassing, to be honest.

When someone else can evaluate someone else’s feelings before they can even talk about it with each other.

The crowd erupts in cheers again around me.

Having been lost in thought, I failed to see Vio deliver an indecisive shot with a force to be reckoned with, hitting the lines with pinpoint accuracy and leaving her opponent scrambling to respond. I watch the replay on the teleprompter.
