Why?

Well, because Ale didn’t like Marrisa’s dad’s misogynistic views.

But of course Xavier saved the day with his good looks and charm. The relationship stuck, according to Ale, and of course she doesn’t want it to stick. You know how many times that one girl says, like before every word? Well, that’s as many times Ale has begged Luca and our new team principal, to kick him off as a sponsor.

I’ve never met Marrisa, but I have seen her with Xavier at races a couple of times. I recognize that look in her eyes; it’s the same one I gave León.

Based on her social media, she likes him a lot, considering they’ve been in a relationship for two whole years says enough.

“Welcome to Mexico!” My words waver as I try to welcome him.

¿Que pedo?

“Happy to be here. I’ve only ever been to Tulum and Los Cabos, never Acapulco. The only other place I’ve been to is Mexico City, but I don’t get out much.”

He drops his bags on the floor. A silence similar to an awkward one fills the room. But Xavier doesn’t care; he reaches up and stretches out, a movement I can assume is the result of a long car ride. His shirt rides up, which makes me notice that his shorts sit dangerously low. I can see his V-line and some of the hair leading to a certain area.

I turn around immediately and search for my sisters’ gazes. They are still staring. Cleo’s drooling, and Chanel looks at him stoically.

“Xavier, these are my twin sisters Cleo and Chanel,” I say, trying to break the silence and the staring.

“Hi,” he says with a smile as he walks away from the front door and toward the couch where my sisters are sitting. He reaches out his hand to Chanel, and she takes it firmly. “Wow, that sure is a steady handshake,” he says in a pained voice.

“Sorry,” she replies with no hint of remorse in her tone.

Cleo reaches out her hand to shake his as he greets her.

She blurts out, “You’re hot.” Her mouth is agape, and at that moment, Xavier Valente’s effect on women becomes apparent. It’s not like Cleo is the most complex person to think someone is attractive, but that sort of fawning is something I’ve only seen in movies. “Sorry. I usually say what’s on my mind. I tend to be an awkward person,” Cleo blurts out yet again.

“I get it a lot, don’t worry. But I can’t reciprocate the comment because I have a girlfriend,” he says, winking, and then he turns to me. “Blondie! Long time no see.” He opens his arms and walks up to hug me. My eyes are wide, and I stare at my sisters in shock. Xavier is hugging me, and all I can do is hug him back while tapping my hand on his back in consolation.

Let’s also not forget the fact that I’m wearing a bikini.

I let out a breath and decide to reciprocate his gesture of greeting. “Yea, the last time I saw you was at your last race. How did it feel to lose the championship to Ale? Again,” I ask with a little giggle as I mention my best friend’s success, which has led to his second place streak as of late.

He lets go. “You mean Wednesday Adams?” He’s smiling.

I give him a look.

“I say the endearment to her face, so she’s well aware,” he replies to my silent response.

“I bet she loves it so much.” My tone is sarcastic at the thought of him saying that to her face.

“Of course she does. She loves everything I do.” He winks, and I roll my eyes at his antics.

“Cheeky as always.”

“You know it,” he says before he walks over to his bags. “Which room can I use? I’m beat. I’ve been traveling all day; I think I might pass out.” His head tilts up toward the staircase as a yawn leaves his mouth.

“You can use—”

Chanel cuts me off. “The bedroom right next to the master is free.” Her fingers point at the room, and Xavier gives us a little nod.

“Thank you. Also, do you have space for one more? My trainer is coming in from Monaco tomorrow,” he asks.

“Of course, my trainer, Sofia, is in the guest house that’s on the beach. If he wants, he can stay there or in one of the rooms down the hall.”

“Perfect!” he says with eyes full of exhaustion.
