“I’ve always wanted to go to Fiji, but now getting an unverified statement from Xavier Valente makes me think differently.” I give him a wink.

“Did you just stoop to my level, Blondie?” His face is filled with bewilderment and playfulness.

I can’t help but smile at the thought that I caught him off guard. “If that’s what you’d like to think.”

“Keep doing that. I like it.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” I reply.

I hear a scream from afar as I see a blue-haired girl plummet down the cliff and into the water. Chanel watches her sister come up for air.

“That was fucking awesome!” the daredevil she is yells in contentment.

Xavier chuckles next to me, and I respond with a smile. His laughter is enthralling. The way the edges of his eyes crease, his smile lines prominent, and his light scruff make him hypnotizing.

Chapter13

Violetta

“That was too much sun for my liking,” Chanel comments as she gets out of the car in her pastel pink sandals that are now covered in dirt.

After jumping off the cliff a few more times, I overcame my fear for a few hours and had a great time. I’ve never taken a day off from training, and I can’t remember the last time I let myself go as much as I did today.

It’s refreshing.

Xavier started complaining about his hunger an hour in, and then we all agreed thirty minutes later that it was time to go. Cleo mentioned a great taco place nearby, so we drove here in no time. The big sign reads “Al Pastor” in big orange cursive letters. Most times, I love eating at restaurants that most people wouldn’t stop to eat at. All the locals eat in these places, which means it’s the best.

My stomach was rumbling in want after the sun was smoldering us for so long and the practical marathon we had to walk to get back to the cliff, increasing my hunger by the minute.

Once the smell hits my senses, I’m practically salivating. Xavier starts walking fast toward his seat, hunger evident in his features.

I grab the seat right next to him, and the server comes over to take our order.

“Buenas tardes, ¿que les puedo ofrecer?”

I look at the twins and Xavier trying to gauge how many tacos all of us will eat. I’ll eat an easy four, Xavier could have ten, and Chanel will most likely have two, along with Cleo.

“Hola, te puedo encargar quince tacos al pastor con piña aparte, cilantro y las salsas que tienen.”I give him a small smile as he writes down the order on his yellow notepad.

“Bebidas?”

“Una agua de Jamaica,”Cleo says, followed by Chanel asking for regular water.

I turn to Xavier. “What do you want to drink?”

“Whatever you’re ordering, Blondie,” Xavier replies cheekily.

“Dos horchatas, porfa.”

“Tu orden está en seguida.”The waiter finishes before going over to the small counter.

Cleo is scrolling through her phone while Chanel glances over her shoulder. Xavier is taking in his surroundings.

“Don’t kill me, but this is my first time having a proper Mexican taco,” Xavier blurts out.

Time stands still. Cleo has stopped pressing buttons on her phone. Chanel’s head turns toward him violently, and I just gape at him.

“But you’ve been to Mexico before?” Cleo asks.
