“Yep, you’re in his territory. He’s known for putting Acapulco on the map, and while you’re here, I plan to give you the full Mexican experience.” My gaze turns to his.

“I’d like that.” He smiles.

“Good because I know Chanel and Cleo were holding back their shock once they heard you didn’t know who Luis Miguel was.” I laugh.

“She’s right,” Chanel says.

Xavier chuckles. “Well, I guess I have a lot to learn.” He shrugs.

“Yes, you do, so I’m going to drag you to Baby’O so you can learn his masterpieces word for word.” Cleo is passionate, like any Mexican when showing people our culture.

“What’s Baby’O?” Xavier gets more and more confused by our words.

“It’s a club,” I respond.

“I like the sound of that.” Xavier smiles as he wags his eyebrows.

“Good because you don’t have a choice. We have adopted you for the next week,” Cleo tells him, finishing up her tacos with a mischievous smile on her face.

This next week is going to be fun.

Chapter14

Violetta

Since I didn’t work out yesterday, I am tied to the court for at least another hour. Sofia yelled at me sternly this morning, but I told her I would make up for the hours I missed.

She seemed pleased. But of course, she left to go to the beach, leaving me here alone without a hitting partner. The biggest advantage I have on court is my speed, which is something that comes naturally to me. Ever since I started playing tennis, my coaches have focused on my agility and how fast I am able to run to the ball in time. But Sofia being thecabronathat she is, has me focusing on the things I’m not good at.

This is precisely why I hired her. Every athlete has something they’re naturally good at. But to be great, I have to improve each skill, especially the ones that are my weaknesses.

My strokes are great. But they aren’t lethal. That’s why I’m currently working on my drop shot. If I hit the ball correctly and at the right time, I am able to hit it over the net, making it land in the opponent’s court short enough to catch them off guard. Most of the time, they aren’t able to hit it before the ball bounces twice.

I’ve done ten reps and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Reloading the tennis balls in the loader that spews out a single ball at a time, I hear steps behind me.

“What’s the world champion tennis player practicing today?” The familiar voice rings in my ears. The deep, soothing sound always has a cheeky tone to it.

My head turns to Xavier in bright blue swim trunks with a white lacy top. He has an Elektra baseball cap facing backward, which is the same color as his shirt. The last few days have made him even more attractive, and his tan has a deep mahogany tone that matches his hazel eyes.

“My drop shot,” I respond with a smile.

I’ve noticed that I smile more around him. Just his presence is calming. His eyes give me a feeling of peace.

“Oh, the classic Nick Kyrgios.” His eyebrows go up and down.

“So the Formula One driver knows a little about tennis.” Nick Kyrgios is a male singles champion known for his drop shot that’s as lethal as a snake.

“A little bit. I like watching the sport but can’t hit a tennis ball to save my life.”

The thought of Xavier Valente trying to hit a tennis ball and failing brings a sense of curiosity. He looks like he could play any sport successfully just by his build, and I bet if he tried enough, he could be pretty good at playing tennis.

“Do you want me to teach you?” I ask without thinking.

I don’t even know why the overwhelming feeling of being around him makes me want to do anything with him. Although it may be just because we’re friends.

Don’t most friends just love to be around each other?

“If you have time. I don’t want to interrupt your practice. I know you have a season to prepare for.” His thoughtful words make me realize he really does care.
