“Where are you going?” We say in unison.

The twins stop in their tracks.

“Out,” Cleo says nonchalantly.

“Where exactly is out?” Vio has been on an authoritative strike, and I am enjoying every second of it.

“Bar 27,” Chanel replies.

“Why didn’t you tell me this before?” Vio asks, her tone seeming conflicted.

“Because some friends invited us out for a few hours about thirty minutes ago and you were on a lovers’ walk with Xavier,” Cleo replies with a mischievous smile on her face.

I quirk a brow in her direction and Vio stills.

There’s an awkward silence for a few beats before Chanel chimes in, “Don’t worry, hermana, we have a driver for the night and it’s the closest club toTres Vidas. If we need anything, we’ll call you to come over toLa Isla.” I note Chanel is reassuring her sister rather than asking permission. Not like they have to ask for permission; they’re of age and should be experiencing the thrill of life.

“And you guys didn’t invite me?!” I let out a scoff and act as if I’m offended by them withholding information.

Not that I need another night out. Yesterday was enough for me and I doubt Vio wants to go out since I dragged her out last night.

“We need a night away from the old folk.” Cleo motions her hands over the both of us.

“I am not old,” I tell her in offense. I know she’s teasing, but the reality of being in my thirties hits me. I never thought I would get to the point where people would call me old.

“I’m not old, but Xavier, on the other hand.” Vio drawls out my name and I scoff. Her head turns in my direction with a playful smile.

“For your information, Miss Twenty-one-year-old, I act like I’m a teenager.” I add some sass to my comment.

“I am well aware of that. A little too aware.”

I like her playful comebacks. It’s hot.

“Okay, well, we better get going,” Cleo says, heading for the door.

“What time will you be back?” Vio shouts as they try to close the door behind them.

Before they shut it completely, Chanel replies, “Two a.m. Don’t stay up too late waiting for us.”

Then I hear the click of the lock and the twins are no longer in sight, Vio seems a little worried, but it’s not as apparent as usual. Accepting her sisters’ actions, she sighs and shakes her head with a small smile on her face.

“Well, it looks like we have the house to ourselves.” I raise my eyebrows at her. “Let’s get freaky,” I exclaim.

“Which translates to a movie night.” Her eyebrows rise in response to my gesture, and I smile back at her.

“You read my mind!” I reply, excited to spend more quality time with Vio. I may feel like I know her, but I want to know every detail. So now that the twins are out of the house, I can pick her brain.

“I’m going to pick up some snacks from the Oxxo around the corner if you want to accompany me.” She moves toward the kitchen and grabs her keys.

“What is an Oxxo?” I ask.

“It’s a bodega of sorts. Kind of like a 7-Eleven, but it’s the Mexican version.”

“What a perfect night to stuff our faces with junk food until we’re numb,” I sing-song.

“I agree.” I see her making her way to the front door before turning around. “Are you coming?”

I nod eagerly and follow her to the driveway where her bright green Mini Cooper sits. At least this time I’ll be able to put the seat back. Last time I was in her car, I was contemplating if I was claustrophobic or not.
