That got Mitch’s attention like a room of naked guests. “Me? Do go on.”

“You’re a star. That much is obvious. Hell, when I speak with others and look back on your previously recorded performances, you’re all most people talk about. Don’t get me wrong, Vanessa, everyone acknowledges that it takes a greatly skilled Domme to bring such a shine out of her sub, but people get excited about a submissive partner who lights up a stage with her enthusiasm. I think my guests would be truly pleased if someone like Michelle could help them feel relaxed and more at ease.”

“I have a feeling you don’t only mean on stage,” Vanessa said.

“She sees right through me.” Candace chuckled. “Of course, nothing happens without your approval, but I’m willing to pay extra if Michelle can be the belle of the ball at some of my parties. Talking to guests, beinggorgeouseye candy, taking care of some of their needs… above clothing, of course. We get a lot of dominant types through here who need to relax. A truly talented woman like her could get them nice and happy for me and ready to spend some more money. It’s win-win.”

“So we’re clear,” Vanessa said, “she will not be touching people, nor will they be touching her, sexually.”

“Of course not. Anything you’re uncomfortable with will go in the rules, and every guest will be made aware. Michelle will be in her special class of guests. Think of her as a walking fantasy who can metaphorically destroyoneof my guests with a look. I think she’s got what it takes, and I’m willing to pay.”

Now, why would you need your guests to be that loosened up?Vanessa had a few theories, and not all of them led to illegal deals. Based on some of the secret parties she had been to since rejoining society, Dommes (and subs) at this level of wealth and fame loved these safe spaces for their fantasies. Vanessa only dealt in places where the consent and licenses could be vouched, if necessary, but Candace was already a yellow flag.Or is that orange?

The door opened. The bouncer in a jacket and sunglasses flagged Candace, who excused herself. “I’ll be back in a moment. Think it over. Thalia?” She snapped a finger at the barely dressed hostess who responded with fervent alacrity. “Keep them company. Unless they want to be left alone. Then leave them.”

Candace stepped outside with the bouncer. Thalia the hostess sat on the other side of Vanessa, a curiously submissive look in her eye as she kept her hands in her lap. One glance told Vanessa that the club employee wore plastic clothespins on her nipples beneath her tube top. God only knew what she kept in her short shorts.

“Thalia, is it?” Vanessa made this young woman’s day when she spoke with her delicate voice. Even Mitch, who knew it was a ruse, further ensconced herself into Vanessa’s embrace as she ingrained herself into the conversation. “You work for Candace, huh? What’s that like?”

The hostess giggled as Vanessa closed the gap between them with her hand, which pressed against the couch cushion. Her fingertips could almost touch Thalia’s bare leg.

“She takes good care of me if that’s what you’re asking.” Thalia was distracted by something coming from the bar. Vanessa followed her gaze to see the blond hostess speaking quietly with the bartender.

“How much is she paying you? Does she pay per event or hour?”

“See…” Thalia blushed. “I do a few jobs for Ms. Lister. She pays me different scales for different things. For this one… she calls me, asks if I’m available… and if I am, she pays me a hundred for the whole night. We don’t take tips, though. Not even the bartender.”

“Do you provide entertainment as well, Thalia?”

Under Mitch’s watchful gaze, Thalia leaned forward, hand caressing the sleeve of Vanessa’s sweater dress. “If it pleases me, but only during my breaktime or after I’m let go from my duties. She’s quite strict that I take care of guests’ comfort and run them drinks if there’s a bigger event going on. Guess she hired me on for tonight so you can see what the service side is usually like. It’d be a lot of fun if you guys decided to do a residency at Club Night. I could see a real act up close all I want.”

Vanessa cleared her throat. “What if it pleased you? How would we arrange that?”

“Uh, well…” Thalia pulled away again. Was she embarrassed? Suddenly shy? Was she told to be flirty and seductive, but to not go all the way? That’s what Vanessa wanted to test before she deduced more of her theories about what happened in this club. “Ms. Lister said I’m to wait until she’s done speaking business with her. I’m sure when her client comes by later, you can have me all you want. Personally, I like the last room on the left. Best bed.”

Her client, huh? Before Vanessa could mull over that choice of words, however, Mitch leaned over her and asked Thalia, “Did I meet you in the Financial District the other day?”

Thalia’s eyes were either naturally wide or aided by the colored contacts. “Not sure what you’re talking about.”

“Sure. You were the waitress at Candace’s brunch spot.”

Lips slightly parted, Thalia suddenly recognized Mitch. “Oh.Oh.Yes, suppose we spoke then. I work there during the day. It’s the main job I work on behalf of Ms. Lister.” Thalia rubbed something off her cheek as she sat up and crossed her legs. “I’m one of the lead servers. Whenever Ms. Lister or a high-profile guest calls ahead I’m tasked with personally waiting on them.ThatI get tips for. Even Ms. Lister generously tips me.”

“How lovely,” Vanessa said. “What other jobs do you do for her?”

“Some odd jobs here and there. Mostly the restaurant five days a week and this club at least once a week.”

Vanessa tipped up Thalia’s chin. She would have delighted in those cherub-like giggles, but this was work, not pleasure. “If you like working for her so much, perhaps we should think about it.”

“I’m not the only one who works here, so we might not always see each other, but… Amalie is pretty much the only bartender, and there’s Kat, the new bodyguard. I don’t know much about her. They’re always here.”

“And me!” said a chipper voice now in front of Vanessa. “Hi. I’m Missy. Can I get you anything else to drink?”

The blond hostess had completely injected herself into the conversation, to the point that Vanessa was compelled to come eye level with the hard nipples poking through her sheer dress.Nothing submissive about this one.She supposed Candace wanted some variety around there.

“We’re fine, thank you, Missy. Are you new here?”

“Sure am.” What was that accent? It was part bubbly Californian mixed with country girl chic.Northern California, perhaps?Vanessa was familiar with the regional dialects, having lived all over the state herself, but she couldn’t quite place this one.Because it’s fake. She witnessed a persona, and it was good. “Started last weekend. Wowza. That was a crazy party, huh, girl?” She said that to Thalia, who still blushed.
