“How are you enjoying yourself?” It took Mitch a moment to realize that Christopher was talking to her. “First time at one of my parties, isn’t it? I’m surprised to not see your partner. Even when you’re quite literally crawling on all fours in Hellfire, she’s around somewhere.”

Candace answered in Mitch’s stead. “Michelle has graciously agreed to be my companion this weekend. You know I hate coming to these things alone. I’m much too old to be cavorting with people half my age while they do their thing. You know I abhor the drugs, Christopher. Someone wassmoking methamphetamineup on deck. I don’t know how you allow it.”

“As long as they behave otherwise, it’s nothing to me, Auntie. My guests know the rules, and my security knows what to do should people not behave. The King’s Crown comes equipped with state-of-the-art holding cells deep below deck.”

“We called those drunk tanks back in my day,” said one of the other men.

Christopher laughed. “Yes, quite.”

“Someone must find Violet,” Irene said. “She’d be upset to know she missed Candace and her new friend.”

Candace perked up. “Michelle,” she said with the perfect pitch to summon Mitch from her seat, “stay here while I check on Violet. Christopher, do come with me.”

The two of them left the room while Mitch uncomfortably settled back into the sofa she still shared with Irene and Helena. “Yes, ma’am,” she muttered.

While the other two men conversed among themselves, Irene had no one but Mitch to amuse her. The server wandered the room in case anyone needed anything to drink.I hope she’s getting good hazard pay. Both of Christopher’s male friends eyed her like she was the prime item up at auction. Then again, for all Mitch knew, this lady was a full-service pro hired for the event.

“Is it true what I’ve been hearing?” Irene asked. “That you’re the hot new thing at Candace’s secret club?”

Mitch wasn’t sure how to answer. “Suppose so. I work there most weekends.”

“What kind of work? Tell me how excited I should be to pop in for a drink next time I’m driving through San Francisco.”

The tiny round pillow propping up Mitch’s back soon found itself on the floor. Only now could she get comfortable without Candace’s presence – or her real Mistress’s, who was thousands of miles away, worrying about her, no doubt. “I’m the primary entertainment. If you’ve seen me do it in a video, I’ll do it at Club Night. Depending on the audience, of course.”

“Fascinating. Don’t suppose you’ll give us a nice show tonight, huh? I assumed that’s why Candace brought you. As a tender morsel to feed to the dogs around here.”

Mitch shook her head. “I’m a walking billboard, but no touching.”

“Touching you is half the fun, I thought.”

“You make it look like you’re having a good time in videos,” Helena said. “Inspiring.”

“Oh, you’ve given my kitten quite a few ideas in the bedroom.” Irene laughed at whatever image played in her head. “I should be thanking you for your service.”

That was the second thing to make Mitch flinch that night. Not that Irene probably had any idea that Mitch was a combat vet with some skeletons of her own in a different closet.

“Are you the complete package in the club?” Irene lit a new cigarette as she shrugged Helena off her and crossed a pair of eye-catching legs. “You know what I mean, dear.”

“I’m afraid I don’t.” This was Mitch’s chance to hear it straight from a client’s mouth.

“Please. All the hanky-panky that goes on in there. You’re telling me you’re up there shaking your firm ass and taking off your clothes every weekend without Candace getting her money’s worth? I’m surprised. It must be because she hasn’t trained you herself. She’s so particular that we’re buying the patented Lister brand. Bit overrated, honestly. That girl you saw me with a month back could hardly hold her alcohol. Once she started drinking… hmph. Knocked herself out cold. My husband and I like them awake. That’s half the fun!”

“I agree that being conscious is a bonus,” Mitch glibly said.

“The really good ones are actually branded, you know.” Irene bit her cigarette as her eyes rolled back in thought. “Or so I’m told. That one we took to Hawaii had the brand but was far from good. I should ask for a refund.”

For the first time since entering this room, Mitch detected a hint of disgust on Helena’s face, but she said nothing.

“They’re literally branded?” Mitch asked.

“Are you shocked? Candace is a fucking freak. Absolute control over the women who work for her. She must respect your Mistress if she’s letting you cavort without her brand. Either that or…” Irene giggled.

“What?”

“Oh, she’s plotting to steal you away from Vanessa. Nowthere’ssome juicy drama I’d pay to hear about. I love a good sub-leaving-her-Dom-for-another scandal.”

“Tell me more about the brand…”
