He took their bags from the truck and carried them, taking her hand and walking down the sidewalk.

“Where are we going?”

“Do you wanna see where we’re staying? Then we can come back out and go down to the water or get something to eat,” Aero said, giving her options.

“Let’s drop off the bags so we don’t have to carry them,” Sam said, wanting Aero to enjoy the beach without having his hands full.

“Okay,” Aero agreed, tugging her slightly and crossing the street.

They walked a few blocks before Aero stopped in front of a two-story clapboard building.

“Here,” he said, holding the door open for her.

Sam entered and looked around.

It was a simple place, with wooden floors and white-washed furniture, the upholstery sea blues and greens, shells, and seascape artwork decorating the space.

“Welcome,” an older woman said from behind the reception desk.

“Hello,” Aero said, setting down their bags.

He checked them in and got the keys.

“Everything should be all set.” The woman winked at him, and he smiled at her.

Aero thanked her before picking up the bags once again and guiding Sam up a flight of stairs to their room.

Before he unlocked it he looked down at her and smiled. “Ready?”

She nodded, anticipation thrumming inside her.

He pushed the door open, and she stepped inside, a hand covering her mouth when she gasped. It was lovely.

The bedding was white and soft, the furniture was rustic, and the decorations were nautical and soothing. On the dresser was a silver ice bucket holding a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of roses in a vase beside it.

Aero set their bags inside the door and closed it, stepping up behind her.

“Do you like it?” he asked, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his head on her shoulder.

Sam nodded, surprise and giddiness flowing through her.

“There’s more,” he said, taking her hand and guiding her over to the French doors that stood open across the room.

Sam gasped. Their room had a private balcony, and she could see the ocean, the sand, and the waves crashing on the shore. Tears sprang to her eyes, and she turned, throwing her arms around him.

“It’s beautiful,” she cried, hugging him tight. “Thank you.”

His chest swelled with pride as he held her close.

“Can we go see the beach?”

“Anything you want.” He sighed contentedly.

Hand in hand, they walked down to the beach. As soon as Sam’s feet hit the sand, she pulled off her sandals and wiggled her toes into the sand. Aero smiled and released her hand, trailing along behind her as she headed for the waves.

The sky was dark, and a few scattered clouds covered the stars, but the moon shone brightly on the water. A few people walked around as they were, but the major crowds were gone.

Sam reached the water’s edge, felt the breeze whip her ponytail around behind her, and stepped into the water. She let out a squeal and jumped back, making Aero laugh.
