“They’re fucking vultures,” Owen grumbled. He crossed the bar room to the chorus of his brother’s laughter, pushed a few of the guys out of the way, and pulled Tilly up from her seat. He could see the surprise register on her face before she gasped as he tugged her against his body.

“Back the fuck off,” he barked, “she’s mine.” He sealed his lips over hers and when she wrapped her arms around his neck, he was sure that she as on board for whatever he planned to do next with her—but that would have to wait until he got her back to his place after the meeting.

Owen kissed her long and hard before he finally let Tilly up for air. He reluctantly let her go and stared down the assholes who hadn’t taken the hint and were still hanging around Mace’s booth. “Get the fuck lost,” he shouted.

“Um, Owen,” Mace said, “if you wouldn’t mind finishing up your little show, I’d like to get on with church.”

“Sorry, man,” Owen grumbled. “I just had to set a few guys straight.” He could feel Tilly’s eyes on him still and he knew that maybe setting her straight was also something he was going to have to do a bit more of. That worked for him because he had all night to go over things, just as soon as he got her home. And if he was able to convince her to move into his bedroom too—well then, even better.

Tilly

Tilly had spent two full weeks trying to figure out what to do about the sexy-as-sin biker who had taken her home from the hospital. He had nursed her back to health, put up with her crazy mood swings, and allowed her time and space to heal. Owen had kept her safe and helped her investigate just what her ex-boss might be up to. And still, she wasn’t sure what to do about him.

Having Owen claim her in the middle of his club, telling all the other guys and even his older brother that she belonged to him—well, that just made her hot. The kiss was scorching and all she could think about was what he was going to do with her later when they were back at his place and all alone.

The rest of the night was a blur for her. She basically sat in the corner booth, pretending to listen to what was being said, and when Mace asked her to tell the guys what had happened to her in the ladies’ room, she stared blankly back at the MC Prez.

“I’m sorry, what?” she squeaked.

“He wants you to tell the guys what happened the night you were attacked in the ladies’ room,” Owen said. The last thing she wanted was to have to talk in front of all the guys in the bar. She was still reeling from the kiss that Owen had laid on her.

“Um,” she murmured. “There isn’t much to tell. I went to the ladies’ room and my ex-boss attacked me.” Tilly wasn’t sure what Mace was looking for here. Maybe he wanted more details and when he didn’t speak after her short description, she began to ramble on, in detail, about why he took her purse and even described turning Owen down when he offered to buy her a beer. She looked over to find him watching her with Maverick and they were both wearing the strangest looks on their faces. Maverick looked amused. He even laughed out loud a few times during her rambling, but Owen looked a bit pissed and she knew that she was ruining everything.

“I’d like to leave now,” she said. Tilly stood and moved out of the booth, heading for the back door that they had come in through just thirty minutes earlier. The bar was silent, and she wasn’t sure if Owen was following her or not, but all she could think about was getting out of that place and into the cooler night air.

Tilly made it out of the bar and breathed in the cool air, letting it envelope her body. She took a deep breath and let it back out, trying to catch her breath. “Hey,” Owen said, “what’s going on?”

“What’s going on is I didn’t like having to talk in front of all those guys and I kind of freaked out,” she whispered, sucking in another breath.

“Kind of freaked out is an understatement,” he said. “You ran out of there like your ass was on fire.”

“Well, I didn’t mean to embarrass you, Owen, but I get nervous talking in front of a crowd—not that you would know that about me. You don’t really know me at all.”

He took a step toward her, and she backed up, running into the brick wall behind her. There was nowhere for her to go, and Owen seemed to take some secret delight in that.

“You didn’t embarrass me, Tilly,” he whispered. He put his hands on the brick wall behind her, essentially trapping her between the building and himself. “You make me crazy and turn me inside out. Hell, you turn me completely on. But you don’t embarrass me.”

“I do?” she squeaked.

“You do,” he admitted. “I’m done pretending that I don’t want you, honey. I want you more than I want my next breath. And as for knowing you, I was hoping that you’d give me the chance to get to know you, Tilly.” He was saying everything that she wanted to hear from him, but it was as if her ears didn’t want to believe him.

“You do?” she asked again.

“Yep,” he whispered. His lips were so close to hers; that she could feel his warm breath on her face. He made her hot and all she wanted to do was wrap her arms around his neck and pull him into her body, but she knew that if she did, it would change things between them forever. Were they ready for that? No, the real question was if she was ready for that.

“Tilly,” Owen breathed, “stop overthinking all of this and just do what you feel like doing,” he said as if reading her mind.

“I’m scared, Owen,” she admitted. The big biker crowded in closer, and she shivered.

“Are you cold?” he asked.

“No, I’m not cold,” she whispered. “I’m worried that if we do this, things will change between us. I have nowhere else to go if I screw this up.”

“You won’t have to go anywhere, honey,” he said. “I’ll never ask you to leave. I like having you with me, and I wasn’t kidding in there when I told the guys that you’re mine. I want you to be mine more than anything, baby.”

“Owen,” she whispered. “I want that too,” she admitted, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“Thank fuck,” he whispered, sealing his mouth over hers. This kiss was different from the one he had given her in the bar. This one was more passionate, if that was even possible, and when his tongue slipped into her mouth to find hers, her damn knees nearly buckled.
