“I do,” she agreed. “I need my publicist to think that everything is going smoothly so that my book tour doesn’t get canceled.”

“Does she have any idea?” he asked.

“I don’t think so,” Justice said. “Will you do it?” she asked. “Will you take the job and pretend to be my boyfriend?”

He let out his breath and dropped her hand from his own. She thought for sure that he was going to turn her down. “I’ll do it,” he said, surprising her. “But you need to talk to your publicist. If this guy keeps showing up, it’s going to become a problem.” He had no idea just how right he was, but the less he knew about her situation, the better. All Steel needed to know was that she had a stalker and he needed to keep her stalker away from her. Justice would have to find a way to handle the rest of it when the time came.

“I’ll take care of everything else,” she agreed. “Now, I need to get home and hang up a few of the security cameras that I just picked up.”

Steel groaned and sat back down behind the crappy folding table that he was using as a desk. His office looked as though it was thrown together with things that he found in his basement. “I’m assuming that he knows where you live?” he asked.

“He does and he’s told me that he plans on stopping by. I can’t let that happen. My home is my place of refuge. I write there and if he shows up, unwanted, I don’t know what I’ll do.”

“You’ll move in with your new boyfriend who already has a great security system in place,” Steel drawled.

“I think that you’re overestimating my new boyfriend’s enthusiasm about our relationship,” she teased. Steel threw back his head and laughed and Justice was suddenly transported back to high school, staring at him as though he was the most beautiful boy in the whole world.

“I think that your new boyfriend would be fine with you moving into his place for a while,” Steel said.

“Is your place decorated like your office?” she asked, looking around his messy office.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked.

“It means, you really don’t have much in the way of furniture and my place is cozy. I even have a home office set up as my writing space. If I move into your place, I won’t get much writing done and I’m on a deadline,” she said. Her publisher had her on a tight deadline and not meeting it wasn’t an option.

“Okay, how about if your new boyfriend sets up a real security system at your house and then moves in with you for a while, just to make sure that this creep doesn’t show up there?” he asked. She had to think about that one. On one hand, having Steel around would give her a sense of security, but on the other hand, he’d be a giant distraction and one that if she wasn’t careful could cost Justice her heart again.

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea,” she insisted.

“Listen, you want to hire me to keep you safe. If your stalker knows where you live, I’ll need to put in better security measures than just sticking up a few store-bought cameras. At least let me put in a good security system for you, Justice. We can negotiate the rest later.” Steel was right—she was hiring him to keep her safe and that meant while she was at home too.

“Fine,” she said, “you can come over and put in a security system.”

“Great, I’ll grab something for us to eat and be over by five,” he said. “I just have one client to check in on and then, I’ll grab my gear.”

“Something to eat?” she asked. “You don’t have to get us food, Steel.”

“Sure I do,” he said. “It’s the least I can do to make up for being an ass to you in high school.”

“I hate to tell you this, but it’s going to take more than one dinner to make up for all of that,” she said.

“Noted,” Steel said, “and, if you let me move in to keep an eye on you, it will give me more opportunities to make things up to you and clear my good name.” Justice couldn’t help her giggle as she shook her head at him. One thing she knew about Steel was that he was a smooth talker when he wanted to be. She had noticed him charming his way around town over the past few months that he had been home and joined his brothers’ security team. The women all over town were vying to get his eye, but Steel seemed blind to all their efforts.

“I’ll consider it,” she lied. There was no way that she’d let Steel move into her home to sweet talk her like he did the general female population in town. No, she had learned her lesson when it came to falling for Steel Blane—the hard way. The one thing she knew about herself after all these years was that she was a quick learner, and second chances were only ways to let people in to hurt her. Justice wouldn’t be making that mistake again.

Blade

Blade walked into Savage Hell with his sister by his side. He knew that he was going to have to keep a fucking leash on Wrenlee, but that wouldn’t be anything new. His sister was never one to behave and bringing her to a bar full of horny bikers might not be his finest decision, but he really had no choice. He needed to get some help with his little sister, and he knew that his brothers would give him a hand.

They walked hand in hand to the bar and he could feel the eyes of every guy in the room staring them down. Most of them were probably thinking that he’d picked up a woman, and he’d let them go on believing that too because there was no way that he’d let anyone approach her, even if she was smiling and flirting with most of the guys at the bar.

“Who’s the girl?” Savage asked, looking his sister over. As the club’s Prez, Savage made it his business to know every member’s business.

Blade leaned in to whisper, “She’s my sister,” he said.

“Why are you whispering?” Savage loudly whispered back.
