“With you at my side, I am pretty sure I can do anything.”

He kissed the tip of my nose. “Damn right, omega mine.”

Chapter Seventeen

Nicholas

Therewerewhatfeltlike a thousand delays in our construction, and it felt like our house would never be ready. What made things extra difficult was that our rental unit was tiny and my mate… not so much. I’d never tell him this, but he was ginormous. And while he felt fat and gross from it, I couldn’t keep my hands off of him.

Watching his belly grow with our child was officially the sexiest thing ever. With every opportunity I had, I had my hands on his belly or rubbing his back or his feet. Anything to feel the warmth of his skin. He seemed to hum with appreciation each time, and I craved that.

Now that the house was finally ready, we got the final sign off on the construction, and it was officially livable.

“We don’t need to move it all today. We can move after Christmas.” I didn’t know why I was even mentioning it. He was adamant. We were going to wake up in our new home on Christmas morning. That was all there was to it.

“We do. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. I will be sleeping here.” He stomped his foot, and I did my very best to hold in my amusement. I wasn’t succeeding, based on the look he shot me.

I held up my hands in surrender. “Then let’s make this happen.”

I’d tried to get him to stay with his parents or mine and let me take care of this part of things. We had siblings and cousins galore to help. We could easily do it without them. In fact, it would be easier without him since none of us would be worried that he was going to hurt himself or go into labor at any second. It wasn’t as if I were going to let him so much as pick up an empty box. He was a week past his due date. Heavy lifting was a horrible idea.

He refused, of course. He said he was the only one who knew where everything went. There was no talking him out of that. The best I could do was to have him promise to only direct and not do. I wasn’t optimistic that was going to happen.

After we had the first truck load in the house, Christopher began ordering us around. It was nice to know where everything went, but it would be nicer to have a mate not stressing himself out.

I made sure that our bedroom was the first thing set up. If we were going to sleep here tonight, then I wanted to make sure it was in a comfortable space.

Once I had that done, I came down to find Christopher unloading a box of dishes in the kitchen. I sighed.

“You don’t look so well.” He glared at me, but he did leave the kitchen.

I followed him.

Christopher plopped in the recliner to catch his breath, and he was now hunched over, clutching his belly.

“Want me to get you some water?”

“No. I think… I think I need to walk around for a bit. Help me up?”

“You were just doing that, are you sure you don’t need to sit?”

He shook his head. “Sitting hurts. Standing feels better.”

It took a bit, but I managed to get Christopher up.

“I think I over did today,” he said.

On that I was in a thousand percent agreement.

“Maybe a shower and then bed?” I offered. One thing we were sure to add to our new home was a shower we could both fit in comfortably, with water coming at us from all angles.

“Yeah, that sounds nice.”

I set a shower for him, and when I came out to get him, Christopher was staring at the floor… the wet floor. “I think my water broke.”

“I’ll call the midwife.” We had made plans for this. Heck, we even practiced what to do when the time came, and already I was fumbling over what next.

“How about you help me into the shower first?” He walked around the mess on the floor and towards the bathroom.
