We were in Hawaii.

“Wow!” Jax exclaimed, smiling happily as we walked out of the Kahului airport. “Look Sunny! Can I get one of those?”

Seeing what got my brother so excited, I laughed. “That’s a boogie board and maybe once you’ve learned to swim in the ocean and I know you won’t drown.”

“I can swim!”

“You play in a pool that’s three feet deep. The ocean is different, Jax.”

Life was easier in Maui, thanks to Solomon.

Solomon arranged everything from the Jeep that was waiting for us at the airport to the house he bought right on the beach in a secluded but expensive part of the island.

He even had the house furnished with everything we could need.

It was a beautiful three-bedroom ranch, with an open floor plan and a wall full of sliding windows that opened to the ocean. Jax was over the moon with his room when he found surfboards, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, and any other thing a young boy would need to have fun in the sun.

My room faced the rear of the house, so if I wanted, I could open those sliding glass doors and let the cool ocean breeze float around me as I slept in the big king-sized canopy bed. Draped with white sheer muslin embroidered with little sunbursts, the room felt magical. Exotic flowers adorned every surface of my room and when I stood in the middle of my room looking out towards the ocean, my heart filled with excitement.

I thought when I met my sister for the first time that my life was complete. That I would never want or need for anything ever again. I was content and happy. Then Solomon showed up and changed everything. With him, everything was brighter, happier, sweeter. I didn’t want to imagine my life without him. I couldn’t. Just the mere thought of him disappearing caused a deep ache in my soul.

I felt him behind me.

Close but not touching.

Without thinking, I turned, wrapping my arms around him, and hugged him tightly as I laid my head on his chest. His heart picked up, racing as we stood there in my room, with me hugging him.

When he didn’t reciprocate, I whispered, “Hug me back, Solomon.”

Tentatively, his arms moved until he wrapped them around my upper back. Snuggled close within his embrace, I closed my eyes and just enjoyed the moment for however long he would allow.

“WOW!” Jax gasped, running into my room and out towards the ocean. “This is so cool!”

Laughing, I turned and watched my brother jump and holler as he took in our new home, but what I noticed more was that Solomon didn’t release me as his arms held me close.

Looking up at him, I found him looking down at me, ignoring everything around him. Standing there in each other’s arms, I smiled.

“Thank you for this, Solomon.”

“Welcome home, Sunshine.”

Chapter Eight

Jessica

“You can’t tell him,” I stood angrily, blocking Bullseye, Savage, and several of the others from entering her room. “He’s barely hanging on as it is.”

“He has a right to know, Jess,” Savage sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. I got they were only looking out for their brother, but right now Solomon wasn’t a Golden Skull. Right now, Solomon was a husband whose only concern was his wife.

“No. Not this. Not until she is awake and can help calm him.”

“It’s been over a week, Jess. The longer this goes unsettled, the harder it’s going to be to find the bastard.”

Shaking my head, I stood my ground. “I thought you were all big badass bikers. You go find the fucker and bring him to justice, but you are not going into that room and telling him this shit.”

“It wasn’t an accident, Jess,” Ink admitted. “Someone ran Sunny off the road. The police chief confirmed it. It was a hit. Someone purposefully tried to kill her. Sandman needs to know his wife is in danger.”

“No. Solomon needs to stay with his wife and make sure she comes out of this coma alive.”
