"I won't have to," I rose, because let's face it, neither one of us was going to back down now, and lying there in the aftermath of our lovemaking, naked skin touching each other, wasn't really how I wanted to fight.

I pulled on my panties and my sports bra while he grabbed his breeches and pulled them up on the other side of the bed.

"How will you get out if things get ugly at your FOB?" he demanded.

"There isn't another choice, Kendryx. You can't go with me," I stated.

"There is always another choice. You said there are ways to handicap the human army, to make their weapons useless. Just tell me what they are."

My anger flared. I knew I was wrong, but I couldn't stop myself. "Is this what this was all about? I told you that you won't be able to get this out of me with torture, so you thought you could play my body, give me orgasms, and I would tell you?"

He stared at me, probably shocked that I used our sex against him, but hey, he hadn't fought fair when he accused me of being weak against the Vandalls.

"How can you even think that?" he sputtered.

"Did you?" I demanded, pushing my fists into my hips.

"I don't need to apply cheap tricks like that."

"Good," I nodded. "I'm glad to hear that."

He waved his hand." Let's get back to the matter at hand, which is using whatever secret weapon you have against the humans."

"I can't, don't you understand that?" I hissed. My emotions were running wild inside me. On the one hand, my still tingling body craved nothing but to lay down and go to sleep in the afterglow of my orgasms. On the other hand, my heart was pumping hard, replacing endorphins with adrenaline, egging me on even further.

"You don't trust me," he stated but the arrogant line around his mouth that should have told me he didn't care was betrayed by the insecurity and hurt in his eyes.

I hurt him.

I swallowed because he was hurting me too. "No, you don't trust me."

We glared at each other.

"So your plan is to go in there and… talk?" he sneered.

"Yes." I nodded. "I have to give them one more chance to do the right thing. These are my people, my superiors, my soldiers."

Herlastwordsresonatedwith me even though I didn't like them one bit. I tried to put myself in her position. I, too, would have done anything for my warriors. As much as I wanted her to be a simple kallini, she wasn't. She was a warrior in her world and expecting her to be anything else was unreasonable.

Mostly, this fight was about my pride, and my inability to let her go out into danger, but what kind of male would do that?

Strangely, despite having accused her of it, I didn't think she would betray me or my people. I hoped not with all my might because she had the ability to break my heart into a thousand pieces.

There was one thing I was one hundred percent sure of though, and that was she would do what she could to stop the Terran Confederation from attacking us, or at least not using their advanced weapons, which wouldn't leave us much of a chance.

"Even if they listen to you, are you willing to trust them again? They betrayed you before," I argued. "Let's level the playing field first, and then we go in together and talk to them."

She wavered, and I held my breath. Slowly, she shook her head. "I can't."

Irritated, I threw my arms in the air and huffed. "Why in the gods' names not?"

"Because if I do my thing, they will lose their ability to leave this planet," she said, raising my curiosity even more to whather thingwas.

"That's a good thing in my mind," I tried.

"Some of these people have families back home to return to. I can't just cut them off."

"Let the Terran Confederation come and pick them up," I argued.
