Some of the stronger ex-Terran Confederate Forces soldiers joined the ranks of the warlord's warriors, because Gryck had created three more warlords, and Thyre warriors were spread thin, which was unsettling because the Udruns were making more noise.

Luckily, though, the peace with the Vandalls seemed to be strong, trade was established, and after a few months, the first trading boats came and left Dokkymburg's harbor, taking and bringing not only wares, but news as well. Apparently, Uthar was erecting coastal harbors and had given one to each of his sons as their demesnes. He had even accepted his human daughters-in-law. The blow his species had received brought things into perspective for the hardcore Vandall. I still didn't harbor many good feelings for him, but he was kind of growing on me, and who knew? Maybe one day in the distant future, I might even like the barbarian king.

As for my barbarian warlord, only a few days after we arrived at Dokkymburg, he sought me out on our balcony where I was scanning the horizon, hoping to see a whaross.

I sensed his presence even though I hadn't heard the door to our chamber opening and closing, so I wasn't surprised when his arms surrounded me, pressing my back against his chest.

"I missed you," I whispered, because he had been gone all morning.

"I missed you too," he confessed. "I have something for you."

"You are all I need." I said, meaning it. It was true. If we lived in a cave or wooden hut, I would have been happy as long as he was with me.

"You deserve more than only me, but I'm glad you feel that way," he smiled against my hair before he gently turned me so I faced him.

"I promised you something," he mumbled, fumbling inside his pocket until he pulled out the most stunning ring I had ever seen.

Red garnet-like stones were set against a yellow gold band, interspersed with stones that glittered like the most sparkling diamonds I had ever seen.

"The red reminded me of your hair," he said, pulling my hand up. "And the yellow is a Thyre symbol of eternal love. The white gems sparkle like your personality, bright and indestructible."

My knees weakened and the familiar flutter in my stomach returned. "Oh Kendryx, it's beautiful. Thank you!"

He kissed me deeply. "I will always be there for you, Chrissy. Always. You are my love, my life, you are every breath I take."

Enthralled, I stood in his arms and gazed up into his handsome face. I didn't know how I had gotten so lucky or what I had done to deserve this man, but I would hold on to him for the rest of my days.

"I love you, Kendryx."

"I love you too, Chrissy."

He enfolded me into one long, hard, passionate kiss.
