Ialmost don’t see the drop-dead gorgeous girl walking towards me through the crowd, but when I do, she takes my breath away for a moment.

It’s a strange feeling, one I’m not sure I’ve ever had before—not like this. I can’t remember anyone ever making my heart stop in my chest for a second, or my breath catch, or a jolt of pure, electric lust shoot through me the way this girl does. There are endless women in this place—four of them hanging off of me already—but for a minute, I almost forget that they’re there.

The girl is a knockout—thick auburn hair cascading in loose curls around her face and shoulders, a bright blue dress that looks like it’s painted on the front of her, and the most perfect body I’ve ever seen. Even in the heat of the club, I can see the outline of her nipples against the silky fabric, and my cock instantly twitches, my entire body on alert and interested in whoever this girl is.

It doesn’t take me long to find out.

She walks up to me with the kind of confidence that catches my attention right off the bat, swinging that thick auburn hair over her shoulder as she smiles at me. The smile makes my heart trip in my chest again, that buzz of desire tingling over my skin as she walks up to me. I catch a whiff of what I feel sure is her perfume—berries and vanilla filling my nose over the musky warmth of the crowded room.

I nudge one of the girls who is nearly on my lap to the side—one of the blondes, I don’t actually remember any of their names—and flash a smile at the approaching redhead. “Hey, there. You look like you need a drink in your hand.”

“I wouldn’t say no to one.” She hesitates, glancing at the brunette sitting to my right, and I motion to her to get up. The brunette pouts, but she does, sliding off the barstool to come and hang off of my arm.

“What’s your pleasure?” I arch an eyebrow as I ask, waiting to see her reaction. She flushes lightly, her porcelain skin turning pink at the high points of her cheekbones, and laughs softly.

“Something sweet.” There’s a lightly flirtatious lilt to her voice, and I grin, motioning to the bartender. Despite the crush of bodies at the bar, he comes over immediately—likely because of how much I’ve been tipping all night.

“A lemon drop for the lady, please.” I hand him a folded bill for the tip, and he pockets it, nodding. “And another round of what the other girls here were having, too.”

“You’re popular tonight.” The redheaded girl smiles at me. “I wasn’t sure if there’d be room over here.”

“Always room for one more. I’m David.” I nudge her drink towards her as the bartender sets it down.

“Amalie.” She reaches for the drink, taking a small sip of it. “It’s nice to meet you. Is this your first time in Ibiza?”

Her smile almost seems a little shy around the edges, like she’s not quite sure if she’s flirting right. It’s charming, especially paired with the confidence that seemed to radiate off of her when she approached. “No, it’s not,” I tell her. “I haven’t been here often, though. Just once before.”

“Where are you from?” Her tone seems genuine, although I can’t tell if she’s really interested, or just making small talk. I don’t plan to tell her all that much about myself—there’s plenty she doesn’t need to know, not when she’ll be a fling at best. But a little chatting won’t hurt.

“New England. Near Boston. Thus, the vacation.” I laugh. “It can be cloudy and chilly there even this time of year. I needed a break from my responsibilities and a little sunshine. And some good company.” My arm slips around the brunette girl’s waist, emphasizing the last part.

Amalie’s gaze flicks to the girl, and then back to me. She takes another, tentative sip of her drink, tossing her hair again as she tilts her chin up a little. “You definitely have plenty of company.” Her tongue flicks over her lower lip, catching a drop of lemony vodka clinging to it, and I have a sudden urge to lean forward and capture her chin in my fingers, drawing her in for a kiss. I want to pull that full lower lip between mine and hear the soft gasp that I know she’d make for me.

I have the sudden, intense feeling that I can’t let her get away. That Ineedto have her in my bed for the night. I’ve never felt anything quite like it before.

It’s the stress, I tell myself. The pressures and responsibilities at home have been mounting by the week—by the day, really. I wasn’t meant to be in the position I’m in now. I was never meant to be the heir, the one holding up my father’s legacy as he slowly fades into the background. But it’s where I am now, thanks to my brother. He couldn’t keep his shit together, and now I’m shouldering all his burdens.

I’ve been shouldering them for a long time.

But there’s none of that here. Boston and the crumbling Rhode Island mansion and the pressures slowly wearing me down are an ocean away. Here, there’s nothing but sunshine, good booze and drugs, and beautiful women lining up for the chance to get down on their knees or bend over for me. I’ve had more sex in the four days I’ve been here than I’ve had in years, and I don’t remember a single one of their names. I hardly remember what they looked like—to tell the truth, one of the four here with me right now could have already been in my bed, and I probably wouldn’t remember.

I know for certain that I haven’t seen Amalie before, though. I have the distinct feeling that I’d remember her—that even if she walked away right now, she’s the sort of girl I wouldn’t forget. It’s a little unsettling, to tell the truth—but not enough to make me brush her off.

“After another drink or two, I was planning to make this a more private party.” I take a sip of my own drink, keeping my gaze fixed on Amalie. “You’re welcome to join us. I have a penthouse suite; there’s plenty of room.”

Her gaze flicks over the women around me again, and I see that tiny hint of uncertainty on her face once more. “I think it seems like it’d be a little crowded,” she says softly. She raises her glass again, tipping the last of the drink back, and sets it down with a finality that sends a shiver of disappointment across my skin. “But I appreciate the drink, David. It was nice meeting you.”

She hesitates for just a moment as she gets up, just enough to let me know that it’s not me she’s not interested in. It’s the women around me. There’s a flicker of disappointment in her eyes, and I catch the quick way her teeth graze over her lower lip, but she looks at the brunette standing next to me again, and turns away.

Fuck. I’d been looking forward to a night spent sinking into as many women as I could crowd into the king-sized bed in my suite. Still, every instinct in me is driving me to get up and follow her. I move almost without thinking, getting up and taking two quick strides towards Amalie, reaching for her arm before she can disappear into the crowd again.

“What—” She spins, her eyes widening, and for half a second, I think she’s going to slap me for touching her. I see the moment of recognition, and she pauses, her brow creasing a little as she looks up at me in confusion. “What is it?”

“Come dance with me.” I step closer, and I have the uncanny feeling that the press of the crowd around us vanishes, that for a moment, it’s only her and I as I slide my hand up her arm, tugging her closer. The air around us is thick and warm, perfumed with the scent of a thousand or more drunken, moving bodies in this space, but all I smell is that sweet vanilla scent of her perfume. It makes me want to drag my tongue across her skin, nibble at her ear, and taste every inch of her until I find out if she tastes just as sweet.

“I only like dancing with one person at a time.” She bites her lower lip, and the innuendo is unmistakable—as is her meaning. She’s interested, but only if it’s just her and I.

I should be more concerned with the fact that I’m considering this. I’ve never met a woman who could make me want to change my plans for her, who could make me want her enough that I’d pass on the chance of a foursome for the night just to get her in bed. But something about Amalie makes me feel as if I’ll regret it if I let her go.
