Thank you for breakfast, Daddy.

Three dots start bouncing right away letting me know he’s responding.

You’re welcome, babygirl. How are you this morning?

Missing you, of course.

I miss you too, love. I would much rather be there with you.

I smile at his words. I love that he’d rather be with me than at work. I feel the exact same way. Although, the last two nights when I’ve had to work, Jude parked himself at a table and watched me all night. I can’t say I hated it either.

It’s okay, Daddy. You’ve got responsibilities. Besides, I’m going shopping so I won’t even be here.

I’m not a bit surprised when my phone rings. I had a feeling he wouldn’t let me leave the house without talking to me first. He will probably lecture me about safety and that I need to text him whenever I get to where I’m going, when I leave, and when I get home again. It’s silly because he confessed to installing a tracking app on my phone before giving it to me. He can literally know where I am at all times with just the tap of his finger.

“Hi, Daddy.”

“Hello, babygirl. You’re going shopping?” he says incredulously.

I giggle. “Yep. Write it on the calendar. I’m willingly going to the mall. On the day before Christmas Eve even.”

“I can have Chance go get whatever you need. You don’t have to ever go to the mall again. I made a promise and I intend to keep it.”

I giggle again at the seriousness of his tone. “It’s okay. Chance can’t get what I need because even I don’t know what I’m getting yet. Besides, it’s for Christmas so I should pick it myself.”

“I told you I don’t need anything but you for Christmas, and Mom won’t care if you don’t get her anything. She just wants to spend time with us and get to know you. She doesn’t expect you to buy her anything.”

I sigh and roll my eyes. “I know, but it feels wrong to not get her a gift, and you’ve already got me, so that’s a terrible Christmas present.”

He lets out a low growl. “Babygirl, you’re the best Christmas present. One I can unwrap day after day after day.”

My body flushes, and I’m instantly wet. He always knows just what to say to unravel me. I like that he sees me as a gift because he’s the best Christmas present I didn’t even know I wanted.

“I like you unwrapping me, but I’m still getting you a present.”

He chuckles. “As long as I get to unwrap you beside the Christmas tree, too.”

“Deal,” I agree.

“Drive carefully and text me when you get there…”

“And when I leave and when I get home. I know the drill, Daddy. You don’t have to worry. I’ll be safe.”

“I’ll still worry. Have fun, babygirl. I’ll be home for dinner. Do you want me to bring home Chinese?”

My mouth waters. We've spent a lot of time talking about our likes and dislikes, and he was shocked to find out that my favorite type of food is Chinese, but I haven’t eaten it in years. It’s so sweet of him to remember something as trivial as the fact that I love Chinese food.

“Hell, yes!” I say excitedly.

He chuckles. “Crab Rangoons and orange chicken?”

Holy crap, he even remembered my favorite dishes? How did I get so dang lucky?

“Yes, please. Can I get noodles instead of rice?”

“Babygirl, you can have one of everything on the menu if you want.”

I giggle. “I don’t need the whole menu, but noodles will definitely earn you a kiss or three.”
