Her father’s face lit up. “Thank God, it wasn’t that boy toy.”

Laughter escaped her, rumbling up from her chest. How did her father even know about boy toys?

Her mother giggled and hugged Lucas. “We’re so happy to have you here.”

“Thank you, ma’am,” he said.

Her father reached out and shook his hand. “Glad you’re here.”

Olivia hugged both of her parents. “Oh, Mom, I was so scared and Lucas came to my rescue.”

With a smile, her mother gazed at her. “I think you’ve found your forever man.”

“I know I have,” she said, glancing at Lucas, knowing there were no more doubts.

“I’m so proud of how you stood up to Steve.”

Lucas put his arm around her and squeezed her to him. “Baby, you did so good standing up for yourself. I’m so proud of you.”

While she had never planned on having a confrontation with the cheater, needless to say, it felt good. He’d expected to walk back into her life and for her to accept his bad behavior, but that was not going to happen.

They all walked into the house and Olivia glanced around at the beautiful Christmas tree in the corner of the room, the decorations, and the holiday music playing in the background.

“Where is everyone?”

“It’s this weather,” her father said. “What a time for the worst storm of the year. Emma is stuck in an airport waiting to get out. Amelia is holed up with a paramedic. Why we have no idea. I’m just thankful Lucas rescued you.”

“Me too,” she said, happy now that everything in her life had imploded and sent her rushing to her parents. But what was the big urgency?

Glancing between her mother and father, she frowned. “So what was the big urgency that we all get together for Christmas.”

“Besides, the fact that we wanted to spend the holidays with our children?” Her mother said. “We have an announcement, but we want to wait until everyone arrives. We’re hoping they’ll get here today.”

An announcement. That seemed odd.

“It’s not life threatening or anything like that. You don’t have breast cancer?”

“No, dear, it’s a happy thing. In the meantime, why don’t you and Lucas sit and tell us how you met?” her mother said.

She glanced at Lucas and smiled, her heart full. Why they had met, she’d never understand, but she was so thankful for him coming into her life. “Fate or the universe, someone intervened and he saved me. Mom, I think we’re going to need to plan a wedding. And soon. If he had his way, it would be tomorrow.”

Lucas smiled at her and she knew she’d found her forever man.

“Or even right now,” he said, grinning at her.

CHAPTER17

Emma Miller hated flying. Especially into small regional airports where there were only a few flights a day that connected with where you wanted to go. Sitting in Missoula, Montana, waiting for a flight to Whitefish, she watched the storm clouds rolling in and growing darker.

Not good. Not good at all, and she knew that if they didn’t take off soon, she wouldn’t be reaching Whitefish today. Already she could see a line of people at the rental car window and she wondered if they were trying to get out of here.

This Christmas, her mother had insisted that everyone come home for the holiday. Something about a family announcement. But getting from Denver to Whitefish Montana was never easy, especially in the winter.

Glancing at her phone, she checked the local weather station. Blizzard warnings. Five to six feet of snow were expected to fall in the next two to three days. What the hell? What was she doing here?

Sure, Denver received snow, but nothing compared to what Whitefish received.

It wasn’t like she enjoyed going home.
