“How did that happen? Or did you really run into her yesterday at the grocery store and charmed her off her feet and into your bed?” Axel smirked. “Because if that’s the case, then I’m very impressed.”

I exhaled slowly. “We worked together at my holiday charity event. And one thing led to another.”

“Obviously.”

“I’m trying to be serious.”

“I am, too.”

I peered at my son, trying to keep my words steady. “Do you have a problem with this?”

He laid a hand on my shoulder. “Is it serious?” he asked quietly.

I pulled my hand out of my pocket and swiped at my temple. “Yes.” I knew everything happened so fast, but this was happening. I was addicted to her. “It is.”

“Does she make you happy?”

“Very happy.”

“Then that’s all that matters.” He squeezed my shoulder in reassurance.

I was relieved he had my back, but I knew things weren’t so simple. “I wish that were the case.”

“What does that mean? You think Amber doesn’t feel the same?”

“I know she feels the same.” Hell, Amber was crying outI love youearlier when I had my cock buried deep inside her, but I cut off her words when I attacked her mouth overcome with emotion that I couldn’t contain.

Our feelings for each other weren’t the problem. I thought about Bill and Johana. I was 100 percent certain our friendship would be on the line because of this. But damn if I would ever give Amber up over this. “This could wreck a friendship.”

“Dad, you deserve this. You deserve to find happiness, again. And if she’s worth it, you should fight to keep her.”

Jesus. When did Axel become an expert on relationships? The guy had never dated anyone seriously in his life until he met Natalie. Now he was giving me advice? “She’s worth it,” I growled.

“All right, then.” Axel slapped on the back. “You know how we Thomas men roll. When we fall in love, we fall hard.”

Love. Once again, I had to admit my son was spot on in his observation. Was obsession love? Yeah. It was more than an obsession. I did love her. Probably fell for her the night I saw her pictures on that dating app. Who would’ve thought?

I smiled wryly and wrapped my arm around his shoulder. “Damn right, we do.”

“I love you, old man.”

I leaned into him, jostling him teasingly. “I love you, too. Most of the time.”

He chuckled and sobered. “Oh, and Dad?”

“Yeah?”

“Fuck the naysayers.”

I sat on the couch next to Natalie, with a drink in hand, as Aaron sat on the floor by the tall, elegant Christmas tree, helping Lexi open her final present after the thirty other presents that Aaron had bought for her. However, this gift was the biggest one, wrapped behind the tree. It was a Barbie Jeep. From him. I couldn’t help smiling. He loved to spoil his granddaughter.

“Dad, she’s not ready for that.” Axel moved over to him, watching as Aaron placed Lexi into the driver’s seat. She was too short, and her feet weren’t even close to reaching the pedal.

“She’ll grow into it.” Aaron smiled and tousled Lexi’s hair. My heart melted a little more at his kindness and gentleness with her. Glancing around the room, I took in all the discarded wrapping that was left in the aftermath. He obviously loved giving gifts. My man was a giver, and I loved it.

“You’ve already given her a set of kid golf clubs, an iPad, and now a battery-operated car that she won’t be able to drive for at least another year.” Axel frowned. “You are spoiling her.”

Aaron gazed up at his son innocently. “What’s wrong with that? I thought that was my job as a grandparent.”
