“Amber, are you okay?”

“Yes. Why do you ask?”

She adjusted her glasses and pointed at my plate. “You barely touched your food.”

My stomach had been bothering me all morning, but I assumed it was just nerves. As soon as we checked into our rooms, the guys had taken Lexi with them to the kiddie water park at the resort, while Natalie and I had just been to the hotel spa for facials and were now having lunch.

“I’m too nervous to eat.” I took a pull from my straw of water. “I feel queasy.”

“Are you nervous, or are you pregnant?” Natalie asked without a laugh, so I guess she was being serious.

“I’m not pregnant.”

“I didn’t think I was pregnant either, yet here we are, with Lexi.” Natalie shrugged nonchalantly with an easy smile.

My mind ran backward, trying to calculate the math. I paused, bringing my hand up to my mouth.

“Um, do we need to take a pregnancy test?” Natalie asked.

“How?” I asked absently, although knowing I’d lost track of the weeks because I’d never thought about this before, and I had the birth control shot.

“How?” Natalie kept a straight face. “Well, when two people get together and…”

I shook my head. “I’m serious. I use birth control.”

Natalie smiled wryly. “What can I say? I guess the Thomas men have potent sperm.” She bent down and sipped on her straw. “But it could be a false alarm.”

“What if it isn’t?” Was I really pregnant? “Maybe we should get that test.”

An hour later, Natalie and I were sitting in my hotel room, staring at a stick with two pink lines. It was the third test I’d taken, and each one came out positive.

I peered at Natalie. “How do you think Aaron will take the news?”

“I think he’ll be ecstatic. How about you?” She touched my shoulder. “Are you okay with this?”

I’d thought about our future, and I did see Aaron and I starting a family. I just didn’t think it would be this fast. But everything between us seemed to move at a breakneck speed. Was I okay with this? I nodded with a small smile. “Yes. I’m okay. More than okay with this. I want to have his children.”

She side-hugged me. “I’m here for you if you ever need anything.”

“Thank you.” Natalie and I had grown close over time, and I was so glad she was here with me right now. “How do I tell him?”

She smiled at me deviously. “I have an idea.”

The wedding was beautiful. A small ceremony on a private beach in Punta Cana. Just us, with Natalie, Axel, and Lexi. Unfortunately, Amber’s family was not there. Bill wanted nothing to do with us, but Johana had kept in touch with her daughter, although the communication was brief and awkward. One day, I was certain she’d come around.

After taking wedding photos, we were now sitting at a private dining table overlooking the beach. Our waiter popped open a bottle of Ace of Spades champagne, pouring our glasses for us. We toasted and celebrated; however, I noticed Amber wasn’t sipping her champagne, opting to drink the glass of water next to her untouched flute.

I frowned because I wanted everything to be perfect. “Was the champagne not to your liking?”

“No. It’s not that. I just don’t want to get tipsy on our wedding night. I want to remember everything and savor every detail.”

“Good point.” I did, too. I never thought I’d find happiness again, but I did. And I said a prayer of gratitude every single day of my life. I slipped my arm around her shoulder, pulling her close. “Are you happy?”

She flashed a warm smile. “I’ve never been happier in my life.”

“Good, and I vow to keep you happy and satisfied for the rest of our lives.”

“Is that a promise?” she teased, licking her bottom lip.
