Krish ignores me and turns to one of his men in the vanity who is monitoring the cameras. There are five monitors, all displaying live footage from various angles of the pub where Ayaan is located.

“Any luck connecting with Ayaan?” Krish asks.

“No, Sir. We are trying our best,” the man responds.

“Where is he now?” he asks the other man from his team.

“Ayaan is still in the restroom. And there is no sign of anyone coming out yet,” the man replies, checking the location of the tracker attached to Ayaan’s black-beaded bracelet, the same type that I have on.

“We need to fix the communication problem,” Krish groans in frustration. “Try everything you’ve got. Contact Manish inside and have him check the restrooms. Now.”

“Krish, what’s happening?” I ask, moving closer, a bit anxious about this entire situation.

“I’ve got this, Meher,” he assures, walking to the third person in the vanity. “How long will it take to grant access to Ayaan’s wristband?”

“Twenty minutes at least, Sir,” the man responds.

He shakes his head in frustration, asking the man to make it fast.

“What access? Ayaan told me that his wristband already has access to the VIP level.” I voice my doubt.

Krish lets out a heavy sigh and turns to face me.

“Yes, ithadthe access. But not anymore. So, it’s crucial that I contact Ayaan and inform him not to attempt to enter the VIP level in the basement until we restore the wristband access. Otherwise, he could be in danger.”

“Danger?” I snap. “What...what do you mean he had the access but not anymore?”

“Every wristband has a unique digital code that is scanned when someone swipes the wristband over the electronic device installed at the doors leading to the VIP floor in the basement. The device compares the code with the one saved in its database. If the codes match, access is granted, and the doors slide open for entry to the VIP floor. But if the code mismatches, then a loud alarm will ring, and within seconds, the guards will secure the area, pointing their weapons at the person who tried to breach it.”

He takes a deep breath before continuing.

“Just moments after my connection with Ayaan terminated, we got intel that all the digital codes assigned to VIP members’ wristbands had been changed. This change occurred today, just before the party. Unfortunately, this means that the wristband Manish procured for Ayaan yesterday does not have the updated code, rendering it useless. If Ayaan attempts to swipe the wristband to enter the basement, the alarms will sound, and he will be caught breaching the property.”

Dread creeps up my spine as Krish explains the potential risk of Ayaan trying to access the VIP level tonight.

“My team is currently trying to hack the digital code database to gain access to the new code required to make Ayaan’s wristband functional again. However, this process may take around 15 to 20 minutes to complete.”

“Sir, Ayaan is out of the restroom,” one of his team members screams.

We all rush to the monitor to see it for ourselves. Although the footage is not very clear, we can see Ayaan walking out alone, safe and sound.

“Oh, thank god,” Krish sighs. “Patch me through him, now.”

Krish tries to patch a call through to Ayaan using a few clicks of buttons, but unfortunately, the call doesn’t connect through.

“Sir, Ayaan is making his way towards the VIP level in the basement,” the other team member shouts, looking at the monitor.

“No. No. No.” Krish yells, banging his fist on the table. “Call Manish. Right now.”

I stare at the footage in panic as Ayaan makes his way toward the VIP level door. If he gets there and punches that wristband into their electronic device at the door to gain entry, the alarms will go off, and he will be caught.

The call to Manish connects and Krish barks at him.

“Manish, get to Ayaan. Stop him from reaching that VIP level door.”

We all helplessly stare at the monitor as we see Manish searching for Ayaan.

“Sir, Raghav is also out of the restroom and is on his way to the same door as Ayaan,” one team member spoke up.
