Pratap Walia and Dad are unwillingly forced to go with the CM and Tej Khurana, with Aksh and Vishnu following them. Even as they disperse, my biological father shoots me a look that speaks volumes. It’s a gaze urging me to pick my side soon, and he’s impatiently curious about what that choice might be.

I stay behind, rooted in place, locking eyes with Raghav. I signal Meher to join the family and stay with them, urging her to understand my need to converse with Raghav privately. With Krish and the security team watching them, I redirect my gaze to the man who had sent the ominous threat, attempting to sow panic and chaos within both families.

“I’d told you – the wait won’t be longer,” Raghav brags. “The Shergills and Walias, both families under one roof. A single word from me, and this will be their last gathering.”

That’s it. I can’t contain myself any longer, and I lunge forward, gripping the lapels of his suit jacket.

“Before you can get that word out, I’ll slit your throat, and this will beyourlast gathering,” I snarl. “Forget about harming my family; you won’t even be able to look at them when I revealmy true self.”

At this moment, I don’t care about the onlookers. If anyone threatens my loved ones, this is how I handle it. Raghav grabs my wrist.

“If you try to intimidate me one more time, I’ll forget we’re brothers,” he counters, shrugging off my grip with the same smouldering anger. “Just wait and watch,” he remarks, casually adjusting his suit jacket and retrieving a cigarette from his suit pocket without shifting his gaze from mine.

Before this tense confrontation can further escalate, the dance floor springs to life with a newest version of a popular dance number from the yesteryears. The dimly lit room transforms into an ethereal spectacle with glittering disco balls as the spotlight focuses on the captivating dancer, Monica.

Duniya Mein, Logon Ko (People in this world)

Dhokha Kabhi Ho Jaata Hai (Sometimes are deceived)

Aankhon Hi, Aankhon Mein (Looking in each other eyes)

Yaaron Ka Dil Kho Jaata Hai (Even friends lose their hearts)

Her eyes, sparkling with mischief, sweep across the room before settling on me and Raghav. There’s a subtle acknowledgement in her gaze as if she also notices the striking resemblance between us. She approaches us, gyrating her hips to the beats of the music. She then grabs both Raghav’s and my arms in each of hers and draws us onto the dance floor with her.

Do Dil, Dono Jawan (Two hearts and both are young)

Aankhon Ka Hai Yeh Beyaan (Their eyes are making a statement)

Dono Ke Darmiyaan (In between both of them)

Koi Bhi Ho Na Yahan (Nobody stands a chance to stand)

Parda Parda Haan Parda Parda (Hide… Hide)

Haan Apno Se Kaisa Parda (But why hide from someone your own?)

Parda Parda Haan Parda Parda (Hide… Hide)

Haan Apno Se Kaisa Parda (But why hide from someone your own?)

The music intensifies, as she advances toward us with an intoxicating energy, effectively interrupting the heated conversation between Raghav and me halfway.

Monica O My Darling… O Monica O My Darling!!

CHAPTER 17

AYAAN

Monica’s movements are fluid and seductive. With the finesse of a seasoned performer, she slides her hand over my chest in a flirtatious gesture and draws me closer, the sequins on her outfit catching the glimmer of the disco lights.

Dilbar Ki Fitrat Mein (In the nature of my lover)

Dhoka Bhi Hai Aur Chahat Bhi (There is deceit as well as love)

However, I swiftly shrug her off, uninterested in her advances.

Jaan Jaaye Toh Jaaye (Even if I die so be it)
