Ayaan’s gaze shifts to me, and for a moment, I see a flicker of emotion behind the facade of arrogance. But as our eyes meet, the connection between us is undeniable, and I feel the tension in the air. It’s as if the world around us fades away, leaving only the two of us in this intense moment of longing and uncertainty.

“I came here to talk,” he says simply, his voice firm and controlled. “To your father.”

Talk? What could he possibly want to discuss with my father, of all people? My heart pounds thinking about the other possibilities. Ayaan’s Dad came out of a coma a few days back, and I wonder if he is why Ayaan is here. Did Kailash uncle give Ayaan more hints or details that my Dad was involved in his accident? I can’t help but feel both curious and scared, causing me to become defensive.

“If you are here to threaten Dad, then—”

“Then?” Ayaan interrupts with a wicked grin on his face. “What would my queen do?”

The way he says ‘my queen’ with his arrogant, all-knowing smirk fuels my anger and fear. How dare he call me that after everything that has happened between us, that too in front of my father?

“Whatcanmy queen do?” he taunts again, knowing exactly how to push my buttons. The audacity of his question infuriates me, and my hands curl into tight fists at my sides. I try to maintain my composure, but the concern that whatever Ayaan is here for will cause further difficulty for the Walias is what worries me.

“I won’t let you threaten my father, Ayaan,” I say, trying to keep my voice steady despite the tremor of fear that courses through me. “You have already done enough of that.”

Ayaan’s arrogant grin doesn’t waver, and he leans back casually on the sofa as if he’s enjoying this power play. The intensity in his eyes sends shivers down my spine. I feel like I’m standing on the edge of a precipice, about to fall into the unknown.

“My queen… Always ready to defend her kingdom, no matter the cost,” he says, his voice dripping with disdain.

I take a deep breath, trying to push back the emotions that threaten to overwhelm me. I won’t let him see my vulnerability. Not now, not ever.

“This is not a game, Ayaan,” I retort, my voice steady but laced with anger. “My family’s well-being is not something to be toyed with. So, whatever it is you want, make it clear and be done with it.”

For a moment, there’s a flicker of something in his eyes, something that resembles regret or maybe even guilt. But it’s gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced once again by that familiar mask of arrogance and control.

“I came here to discuss something with your father,” he finally says, his voice calm and composed. “Something that concerns both our families.”

I narrow my eyes at him, suspicious of his motives. I can’t trust him, not after everything that has happened. But I have to find out what he wants, for my family’s sake.

“What is it?” I ask, my voice cautious.

Ayaan’s gaze locks with mine, and I can see the conflict in his eyes. There’s something he’s not telling me, and it only adds to my apprehension.

“Let’s just say I have a proposition for your father,” he says cryptically.

I’m torn between wanting to know more and wanting him to leave and to avoid being in any situation where Dad and he gets into an ugly fight. But I have to play this game carefully, or he might use it against us.

Dad has remained conspicuously silent, especially since I joined this conversation. As I sit beside my father, I can feel the lingering tension in the room, making my heart race. I try to gauge their expressions, desperately searching for any hints or clues. It’s hard to believe that Ayaan Shergill, the biggest enemy of the Walia family, is in the Walia Mansion for the first time in its history.

“Get to the point,” I tell him, trying to sound firm. “What do you want?”

He leans in closer, and I feel a shiver of both fear and attraction as his breath fans my face. But I won’t let his proximity affect me. I won’t let him see how much power he still holds over me.

“I want to make a deal, Meher,” he says, his voice low and seductive. “One that can benefit both our families.”

I’m wary, unsure of his true intentions, but curiosity gets the better of me. I can’t help but ask, “What kind of a deal?”

Ayaan’s grin widens, and I can see the mischief in his eyes. “You’ll find out soon enough,” he answers. “But for now, let’s just say it involves you and me.”

My heart starts to race at his words, and I know I should be careful of whatever he’s planning. I can’t help but feel curious about Ayaan’s proposal, even though I sense it will be nothing short of twisted, considering it’s coming from the King himself.

I lean back, putting some distance between us. “I won’t make any deals with you,” I say firmly, trying to sound strong even though my heart is racing.

He smirks as if he’s enjoying this game of cat and mouse.

“Fair enough,” he says, leaning back in his seat. “As it is, the deal is for your father. He has already heard it. So, he is the one who needs to decide. Not you,” he interjects with a superiority that riles me. It’s as if he thinks he has the upper hand here, and it’s infuriating.

I grit my teeth, trying to remain calm, but his next words only add fuel to the fire. “And I had no idea you were so bad at welcoming guests. You should be courteous to anyone that comes to your house, Meher. Didn’t your father teach you this?”
