I’ve heard that more times in my life than I care to admit. It’s so old that it doesn’t even hit on the radar. But I don’t know how to handle it, so I look at my giant.

“Like me?” Seb asks and settles a deadly gaze on the shop attendant. “I’m a thief? Is that really where you want to go with this conversation?”

His tone captures the pack’s attention, and Darion and Lukas appear from out of nowhere. Both equally cold and menacing. My lungs seize as I watch them move. The attendant seems unaware of the danger he’s in, while I can’t look away.

Lukas kicks a rack of clothes. I feel faint when I see the price tag of a dress and roughly count over twenty replicas lying on the floor.

Lukas presses up against me, his body flush with mine. I try to move backwards, but his arm locks around my back and holds me. I glance around, anywhere but at him.

“No one treats our pack like that,” Lukas says in a menacing growl.

The attendant was shouting, but on the word pack, he looks up, his expression falling.

“Wait, I’m sorry.”

Lukas lifts me by the ass. I hook my legs around his hips and hold on as he stomps out of the store. The centre of the mall is white, the tiles, the ceiling, the walls. Only the strange leafless tree is a break in the colour, but it bugs me, to think how hard the cleaners must work to keep this place clean. I purse my lips at the ridiculousness of this mall.

And all those desperate thoughts do nothing but vanish into the wind as he jostles me against him. He’s so hard everywhere, his abs, his arms, his shoulders. And carrying me doesn’t even bother him. I focus on the way his jaw is twitching and try to ignore his hands on my ass cheeks.

I’m on actual fire. My body is ablaze, and it’s never going out. It takes everything in me not to grind on his abs.

“Lukas!” Darion snarls.

“No one treats my omega like a piece of trash.” Lukas hisses in deadly menace. “Or our alphas.”

Be still my dirt-poor, little heart. This one’s my favourite.

Darion lifts his hands and backs off. “How about Seb and I shop, and you and…” he waves a hand at me, “go do something fun.”

I’m a bit stunned by Darion’s sudden capitulation, but there is something in Lukas’ tone that is sending up all sorts of warning signals, and my instincts aren’t helping to explain any of it. Apparently, in the wake of an angry alpha, I turn into a hussy who just wants to lick him…everywhere. I lift up and rub my cheek against his, exhaling contentedly. Three quarters of my brain starts having a freak out.

Lukas stops walking and stands there with his eyes closed. Tension leaving his body. I let go of the anxious breath I’ve been holding.

“Want to set something on fire?” Lukas asks and smacks my ass. I yelp and clench my fingers on his shoulder. I also clench my legs around his hips and don’t fail to miss the hard bulge in his pants.

“I’m thirsty.” I whine, falling back on an Elise trick she’s pulled a million times to distract us.

Lukas considers it for a moment. “Okay, we can burn stuff later.”

Damn, is he serious, and if he is, does he know how badly I want to do that with him? No, I must behave.

He leads me away from the shop and to another little cafe that has huge gold lettering. The sign says the name is A Little Byte. I frown in confusion, but when we get inside, I see a whole heap of tables with USB ports and charging stations. Huh, cute. Again, I’m sprayed in this mist that steals our scents.

“What do you drink?”

“Uh, coffee?”

He gives me a long look and then ignores me to order some chocolate drink that he passes to me in silence. I study the cream on top, the shavings of chocolate, and take a sip.

My eyelids close as I transport to heaven. I swear I hear a freaking choir start singing. It’s so good. I let out a groan and hear a strangled sound that has my eyes popping open, sinking me firmly back into reality again.

Lukas stares at me with hooded eyes. I swallow hard and clear my throat.

He lets out another one of those growls that make my knees weak and then walks away. I follow, leaving a few feet between us. I watch as he climbs the tree and watches around us. He doesn't appear comfortable in this mall at all.

Lukas is more of a mystery than Seb and Darion. There is almost no information, gossip or otherwise, about him from before. All I know is from the rumours that say he has a temper and a wicked sense of humour. He’s the one the women I spoke to whispered about with giggles and dreamy sighs. The guys’ eyes were filled with wary caution. He likes to fuck, and he likes to fight, but when I ask who he sleeps with, no one can confirm that information.

I can almost see it. The burning fury inside him. It’s not the same as Darion’s, which is more contained. Lukas is a wild card, a fire out of control, a river overloading its banks, cutting its own path. He’s a force.
