Is he teasing her? He is. It makes him so much more than the arrogant jerk I’ve been getting to know. The woman takes my hands in hers and squeezes gently. She is ancient, but there is still a hint of youth in her eyes. I give Darion a curious look.

“Call me Oma, love.”

“Okay, Oma.” I parrot back.

She pats my cheek. “She’s a beauty, Darion. Good choices.”

He clears his throat. “She chose us.”

“Of course she did. She’s a smart omega.”

I frown and finally place the scent hanging off the strange woman. She’s an alpha. It’s faded with time, but it’s still there. Holy crap.

“Ah, you see now.” She winks at me and steps around me, embracing Seb, who bends down to kiss her. “My handsome boy. You look thin. You need to eat more. Where’s my boy?”

Lukas slips into the room and lifts her off her feet, spinning her around. I watch with my mouth parted.

“These are my boys, but I’m going to be handing them into your keeping now.” She laughs at my alarmed expression.

“I don’t…” I cut myself off because I don’t even know how to tell her what I don’t know. “I…my family are betas.”

Her eyes widen, and she looks me up and down. “That’s the strangeness. I see it now.” She turns to Darion and pats his forearm. “You brought her to me, smart boy. I raised you good.”

He shrugs. “She needs to know for her safety and everyone else’s, and there is no one else I’d trust.”

“The centre?”

Darion snorts. “She won’t leave her family.”

Oma’s eyebrows raise, and she straightens before turning to face me. “You put your family in danger by staying.”

I shuffle from side to side, hating the look of coldness in her eyes. “With all due respect, they are more at risk of starving right now than any future problems I bring.”

The alpha chews her lower lip, thinking at length, and then she nods. “Every morning. For a week, at least.” She says to Darion. “You on suppressants?”

I nod my head. “But I’m running out.”

“How long?”

“Maybe a month.” I whisper, refusing to meet Seb’s eyes.

“Bring her here every morning until noon. I’ll catch her up on everything she needs to know.”

Darion nods shortly. “Then we’ll return in…three hours?”

The alpha nods, dismissing them, and I watch as my three alphas leave. My?

“Right, let’s hear the full story.”

I turn back to the woman and follow her into a sitting room. It’s shabby but clean. I sit on the threadbare couch and talk.

When I run out of words, she’s holding my hand in hers and nodding absently.

“Okay, let’s get you prepared.”

“Prepared?”

The old lady smiles, taking decades off her face. “Half the battle is knowledge, the other half is appearances. Let me teach you about omegas.”
