Lukas leans over the desk and smiles at me. “Working hard?”

I swallow because he looks happy and carefree, and it just takes my breath away. If someone had asked what I’d spent the last few hours doing, I couldn’t have told them to save my life.

His smile stretches, and he gives me a lazy look up and down. I smile back, while my pulse races at that very deliberate flirt.Fuck, he makes me feel so beautiful and wanted. He looks good, his hair is even more messed up than it was this morning, and there’s a sheen on his skin like he’s been working out, making his tattoos even more intriguing. I love his shoulders, and his arms, and the way he’s framing himself, leaning over my desk is ensuring that no work is getting done in the near future. He looks lickable, and he knows it.

I lick my lower lip and scent my perfume in the air. I glance at Ava and blush.

“Uh, what’s this?” I try desperately to sound normal.

“Sustaining food. Edibles.”

I glance at the cup and reach out for it. “Thank you.”

“I do have an ulterior motive. I need your help.”

“You do?”

He nods seriously, but the smile is there in the dimple and his sparkling eyes. “I really do.”

I glance at Ava again, blushing. “Okay, shit. All right.” I grab the bag and the cup. “Uh, thanks, Ava.”

“No worries, you’ve done some excellent work. Put me out of a job.”

I chuckle and shake my head. “Not likely, but I enjoyed it.”

“She’ll be back tomorrow, Ava.”

I jerk my head towards Lukas and beam at him.

“Don’t do that.” He mutters.

“Do what?”

“Look so damn happy. There’s people here, and I can’t do anything about it.”

Ava politely doesn’t take any notice. But a huge, gruff man smirks behind his hand as he passes the huge board at the back of the room.

“Come on, Seb wants to brief you.”

“That better not be a euphemism.” I mutter.

“I wish it were, but sadly, Seb and Darion have a single-minded focus with work, and we really do need your help with this particular job.”

I take a sip of the drink and moan.

Lukas stops dead and closes his eyes.

“Lukas, are you okay?”

“Nope.”

“Nope?”

“Not even a little bit. So not okay.”

I replay our conversation, trying to work out what happened. “Uh, why?”

He shifts and is suddenly so close to me there’s no breathing room between us. I crane my head back and find him staring down without a smile.
