“He’s right, Bass,” I tell him, trying to get him to see the bigger picture.

“Like we haven't all done that,” Bass replies. The undertone of his comment makes something arise inside me.Fuck.

“Like you’ve been straight with us, Bass. Care to tell us what's going on with your parents?” King demands.

“This isn't about me.” Bass licks his lips, shifting his eyes to the ground.

King shakes his head, letting out a deep chuckle.

“Un-fucking-believable.”

“This is about all of us because clearly you’re forgetting I'm not the only one with secrets.” King’s eyes find mine, his expression stoic.

“King’s right,” I murmur. Bass’ head snaps toward me agreeing with King.

“Trust you to agree with King, always fucking up his ass,” Bass snaps, shoving past and bumping my shoulder with his as he passes me.

“Something is going on with him,” Jordy says.

“No shit,” King grumbles, his expression faltering.

My eyes slide to King’s, he watches after Bass, worry etching his features.

His expression twists, morphing into something else. The stairs creak softly before Nova comes into view. I take one step toward her and wrap an arm around her waist.

“Is Bass okay?” King pinches the bridge of his nose, taking a deep breath.

“Things are getting out of hand,” Jordy says.

“We need a meeting to put everything on the table. No more secrets,” he says, looking between Jordy, Nova, and I.

“Agreed,” Jordy says.

Knowing we need to come clean about whatever it is we're all hiding so we can move on, I say, “Let's do it,” agreeing with King.

Nova descends the last few stairs before taking a stand in front of me.

“Tonight, no exceptions,” King says slowly. Getting to his feet, he moves past us before he bends to kiss the top of Nova’s head.

“Are you guys okay?” Nova asks me.

“We will be, pup. We always are,” I say, kissing her temple.

With my hand on her lower back, I guide her back up the stairs. Smiling back at me, I wait until she’s out of sight. Turning back to Jordy, he’s standing a few feet from me, with his hands in his pockets.

“You okay?” I ask him.

Shrugging, he lets out a soft chuckle. “My parents want to meet.”

“When?”

“Today.”

“Fuck,” I hiss.

“Her anniversary is coming up,” he murmurs softly.

“Shit, man, it slipped my mind with everything.”
