“Fine,” he says, going back through the papers, ignoring me.

Moving in behind him, reaching for him, I tug him to me so his back is to my front. Kissing his neck, he moves in sync with me.

“I promise I’ll tell them soon,” I murmur, kissing him again.

Bass looks over his shoulder at me, the intensity of his stare pulls something from me.

“Let's find what we came for,” he says, moving away from me again.

Smart because I’m not sure how much longer I can control the urge to fuck him.

“Found something,” Bass says a few moments later, pulling some papers out that have account details on them, Nova’s name being at the top. “Me too,” I say. Bass and I grab the papers and then move through the house quietly.

The silence in the car is enough to drown out everything else I’m feeling.

Bass chews on his lip, watching him from the corner of my eye, it’s taking a lot of control to not pull him into my lap and take that lip myself.

Pulling up outside the house, I know what happened between us will happen again, it's just a matter of time. I’ve done everything in my control to prevent it, but the urge to take Bass and mark him, claim him is enough to drive me wild.

“Don’t,” Bass grunts.

“Don’t what?” I question.

“Promise me something you can't keep.” He exits, slamming the door behind him, leaving me pondering what he meant and the need to put aside my own feelings and make him see what I want. Him and Nova are it for me. Nothing else matters.

So why can’t I accept that I’m into him, and not care what anyone else may think?

It’s only been a week, seven days, since my father was murdered, King was shot, and my entire world was turned upside down.

The door slams open when Bass enters, frustration clear over his face.

What happened out there?

He throws down some papers on the table just as King enters, carrying his own papers. “Did you find something?” Jordy asks, taking a seat next to me, and throwing his arm over my shoulders. King nods. Grabbing a beer from the fridge, he takes a seat across from us.

Bass looks distraught as he takes his own seat, whatever thoughts are going through his head right now are taking control.

“Tell us,” Cass says, joining us.

Bass clears his throat. “There’s a deposit here for a storage shed in Santonio’s name.” Handing it to me, I look it over. Sure enough my father’s signature is at the bottom. Glancing at Bass, my gut begins to churn at this whole thing. What was my father hiding?

“There’s an account open in your name, Nova?” King states, his eyebrows raise when my eyes go wide. “You knew?” he asks.

“I-I,” I stutter.

“Baby girl?” Jordy asks, looking toward me.

“I saw it when I went home. I didn't get a chance to look over it properly, I was interrupted by Miller,” I tell them.

King sighs. “Whatever this means, it may have to do with Carter and Miller.”

“You think they’re after Santonio’s money?” Cass retorts.

“Nova’s,” King says.

“So there’s a suspicious storage unit under Santonio’s name, a shit ton of money involved, and a reason to take out the one person that has control over it all,” Jordy says as they all look at me.

I take a deep, steadying breath, then slowly release it. My stomach curls in on itself, I didn’t know my father at all.
