Throwing the cover off me, I run to my window. Slowly peering outside, I see The Sinners standing in a circle talking. King looks pissed, too annoyed to care I throw on a sweater and go downstairs, I almost scream when they enter the front door.

“Jesus,” I say, clutching my chest. They just couldn’t knock?

“You're coming home, Nova,” King states like I’ll follow behind him willingly.

“No,” I say, standing my ground.

“Pup,” Cass says.

Holding my hand up, I stop him. “Don’t.”

“Nova, there was someone outside coming out of the woods. Whoever it was knows you’re home. What they didn’t expect was for me to be there ready and waiting,” Jordy tells me, taking a few steps closer.

“I need space right now,” I tell them, getting extremely frustrated.

“Where not leaving you completely alone, Nova, end of. You can hate us, fuck I don’t care, there are people after you and I’m done arguing about this,” King barks.

“Fine,” I snap my tone defensive.

All eyes swing back to me. “What?” I shrug.

Bass’ tongue moves along his lip before he smirks at me.

“Our girl’s back,” he says with a chuckle.

King strides toward me, cupping my chin in his hand. Moving his fingers across my jaw, he stops himself before going further, dropping his hand to his side.

“We’re still your shadows, princess, whether you like it or not,” he states.

I blink, then move around him heading toward the kitchen. The last thing I want is them here, but I know they’re not going anywhere. Coming home may have been stupid, but I needed space away from them to think. Guess I’m doing the thinking while they’re still here.

I blow out a hard breath before grabbing a water from the fridge, gulping down at least half of the bottle before I face them again. They all have the nerve to look at me like they haven't been lying to me for weeks.

“Nova,” Cass murmurs softly.

“I don’t want to hear it, Cass.” I can't take anymore lies.

“Get some sleep, we’ll be on guard,” King states before walking from the kitchen, leaving me alone with the others.

“He’s pissed we didn’t catch the guy,” Jordy tells me while I watch after where King walked out.

My eyebrows dart together, I understand that, but it doesn't change that they lied to me, and kept things from me. I’m not stupid enough to think they don’t have a past, but it just hurts.

“Nova,” Bass says, forcing my gaze to find his.

“I’m sorry we lied, about everything. I know it doesn’t change anything and I know you're still angry at us, but I can’t sleep knowing you're here alone and there are people out there that want to hurt you,” he says, reaching for my hand. Lacing his fingers in mine, I let him hold it for a moment before I drop my hand from his.

Instead of answering, I turn and walk back to my room, I just need some time.

* * *

Fluttering my eyes open, it takes me a moment to remember I’m in my own bed, after the ordeal that was last night. Lifting up, I listen for a moment wondering if I still have company downstairs.

I go to the bathroom then pad slowly downstairs, the smell of bacon drifts through the room and voices echo from the kitchen. Guess they’re still here then.

“Morning, baby girl.” Jordy smiles at me when I enter the kitchen. He’s shirtless, they all are, he has on dark pants with bare feet, looking edible as always. Bass looks over his shoulder from where he’s cooking bacon to smile at me, his tattoos are on full display across his back and arms, the need to run my fingers over every single one is so strong. Cass leans over the bench handing me a glass of orange juice, winking for effect while I softly shake my head.

King enters looking all surly and sexy as hell in gray sweatpants that ride low on his hips.
