“Do you have a better idea?” Bass barks. “Because I’m all ears, Jordy.”
“He’s right,” King snaps. Bass gives me a ‘told you so’ look before King grips Bass’ face and growls, “No, Jordy’s right. You’re not fucking doing it.”
Bass rips his face free of King’s hand. “It’s the only fucking way to keep Nova safe, they’ll come for her, and Carter and Miller want her. Fuck I can’t keep track of how many people want our girl,” Bass exclaims.
He’s right, it's a lot, but we need to deal with one problem at a time.
“She’s in danger because of me,” Bass says.
“Us,” King corrects him.
“She’s in danger because of all of us, Bass, not just you,” King barks. “We’ve all put her in danger because we couldn’t stay away, but she’s ours and you’re fucking mine, Bass. I’m not losing either of you,” King growls, pulling Bass into him and gripping him like he’s afraid to let go. Watching my two best friends together isn’t as weird as I thought it would be.
“What do you suggest we do?” Bass says, lifting free of King’s hold.
“We start with one at a time. First find the fucker who’s sending Nova notes, he has to be someone we know or at least Nova knows,” King says.
“We all thought it was Miller, but it’s not, and it’s not Carter’s MO so who else does that leave?” Cass asks.
“We start at the school,” King says, nodding like he’s got a plan.
“Then?” I ask.
“Then we make sure we end the fucker for thinking we’ll ever let him have our girl.”
Cass smirks.
“We remind everyone why we’re The Sinners.”
King smiles. “Exactly.”
I’m willing to sacrifice everything for Nova. I’m betting whoever’s been stalking her doesn’t realize how far we’re all willing to go.
We may have been distracted by Nova, but now we’re going to make them pay, all of them.
Bassand I are at the school. We doubt Carter has been back, but we need to get into his office to see if he has anything that ties him to Santonio.
Bass follows my lead when I get out, his eyes follow the students moving around us running from class to class.
“Nova wants to come back, are we going to let her?” Bass asks as we enter the main building.
“Not until everything dies down, it’s not safe,” I say. He nods in agreement. We enter through the doors that lead to the offices, poking my head around the corner I see Grant, Carter's assistant sitting at the front desk, typing on his computer.
“You’ll need to distract him so I can get into Carter’s office,” I explain. Bass frowns, shaking his head. “How do you suppose I do that? Wave my cock in his face?” he whisper-yells.
Eyeing him to calm the fuck down or he’ll hear us, Bass rolls his eyes then gestures for me to stay.
He walks around the corner, and I watch as he smiles at Grant. “Hey, I’m here to grab some stuff for Nova for classes. She’s taking some time off after you know—her father,” he says.
Grant frowns slightly before he stands. “Right, of course. I’m still in shock hearing about the mayor. I hope they find who did it?” he says.
“This way, all the assignments are in the office down the hall. I've been placing Nova’s in there waiting for her to come back.”
“Great, I'll grab them for her,” Bass says with a smile. Grant frowns again before he begins to walk, waiting for Bass to follow.
“So you’re with Nova? Like her boyfriend?” he asks as he leads Bass down the hall.
I hear Bass murmur, “Yep.” Popping the p with annoyance. Chuckling, I slip behind them and turn the handle to Carter’s office, surprised to find it unlocked.
