“Wait,” Bass pleads, his voice catching. Nicco eyes him with curiosity before pulling the gun back.

“I-it should be …” Bass says, swallowing.

Nicco frowns then looks back at Jacob. Nodding once, Nicco hesitates for a moment before he hands Bass the gun.

Whispering something in his ear, Nicco steps back, giving Bass some space. We all watch as Bass steps up to his father, lifting the gun, he moves his finger to the trigger.

Just when I think this is it, Bass drops his arm, murmuring, “I-I can’t.”

I can’t fucking doit. Why can’t I do it?

Standing in front of my father, I’m frozen. I can't move. Giving me a sadistic grin, he spits blood at my feet before his gaze collides with mine.

“You were always weak, Sebastian, so fucking pathetic.” He sneers.

I glare down at my father. “You’re the pathetic asshole who preyed on children.” My words are breathless, my voice cracking, but I know I can’t let him win.

My father is quiet for a moment, knowing his time is coming to an end.

He’d done things his own way for so long using me, forcing me to do his bidding. The gun is glued to my side, I can’t move my arm, can’t force myself to pull the trigger.

“Baby, you can do this.” King breathes into my ear, shaking my head because I can’t, I’m too fucking weak. This man has broken me time and time again, yet I can’t fucking pull the trigger.

I feel chills go down my body. My father smiles up at me reading my every thought. He knew I wouldn’t kill him. He was right. I am pathetic.

Lifting my hands to my head, I let out a scream. Throwing my head back I look down at my father. Why can't I do it?

Phoenix comes up beside me, placing his hand on the one holding the gun.

“We all have demons, sometimes we need help slaying them.” Lifting my gaze to his, slowly the gun falls from my grasp into his. He was right, I couldn’t kill my father, but at least he’d be dead. Even if it wasn’t by my hand.

Putting some distance between my father and me, I turn into King’s arms, burying my head into his chest. “It’s okay baby,” he whispers into my ear. I feel him nod and I know he’s given Phoenix the go ahead to continue.

Gripping King’s shirt, I hold my breath and wait.

One shot, and thenthump.

Exhaling, my breath becomes slightly labored. King holds me, his fingers moving in circles across my back. Taking a deep breath, I turn to see my father, the man I always feared, lifeless in a pool of his own blood.

He's gone. Just like that.

Phoenix pats me on the shoulder, before walking past King and me.

“He’s gone,” I murmur softly, watching as some of Nicco’s men collect my father’s body, removing him from the area.

It’s a fitting end for him, one he deserves.

“W-what about Carter?” I ask, turning to Nicco and Jacob who are discussing something.

“You leave him to us,” Nicco says, nodding, then without another word he watches us. King and I stand tall as the others form a line next to us.

“My mother?” I ask.

“She's been dealt with,” Nicco says without another word.

Dealt with. Did they kill her?

I know I shouldn't care, she never actually gave a shit about me. I was a means to an end but not knowing is worse. “What about us?” King demands. Nicco raises an eyebrow.
