The needs I have only she can fill, ones she’s going to give me.

She looks up from her kneeling position on the floor when I walk in. Walking past her, my fingers stroke her hair, the unfamiliar emotion I feel tearing through me as I do.

“I see you're paying attention to my rules, kitten,” I say, standing behind her.

Her soft gasp fills the room when my fingers toy with the collar around her neck.

“Maybe I'll take you for a walk, would you like that?” I ask, stroking my fingers across the back of her neck.

“Y-yes please, sir.”

“Turn around, Savannah,” I murmur. She shuffles on her knees, spinning around to face me, and her head drops back as her gaze finds mine. Using my thumb, I brush it across her bottom lip.

“Are you going to run?” I ask.

She shakes her head. “N-no.”

“I don’t believe you.” I chuckle, knowing she’s saying what I want to hear.

“Please, I promise I won’t,” she whispers.

I watch her for a moment, trying to gauge if she really means it.

Bending her head, she sniffs. “Are you going to kill me?”

“Not yet, kitten.” I should, I should just kill her and leave her body for her father to find, but what good would his pain do if he doesn’t suffer.

“Come,” I say, wrapping my fingers around her arm.

Savannah follows obediently. Even if she runs, she won’t get far. There are no roads or houses for hundreds of miles.

Moving through the cabin, my fingers tighten around her skin, just in case.

Savannah smiles up at the night sky before closing her eyes and taking a deep breath.

Watching her suddenly fascinates me.

“I always loved the smell of fresh air,” she says, suddenly realizing she said it out loud.

“It’s just air,” I say.

“I know, but to me it’s freedom.” She slides down taking a seat on the porch. “Don’t worry I won’t run, just don’t lock me back up yet, please,” she whispers softly.

“Fine, but don’t. You won’t like what I’ll do if you run,” I warn her.

The night sky is filled with stars and Savannah just smiles looking at them, like they're the most precious objects she’s ever seen.

“Your father lied to you, kitten,” I say while I stand, holding my hand out for her to take. She hesitates for a second then slowly places her hand in mine.

“What he did, to you,” she starts, “it was awful wasn’t it?” Swallowing, I nod before I usher her back inside.

“I’m sorry,” she murmurs, looking back at me before she takes a seat on the bed.

I pick up the tray from her room before closing the door behind her. I don't answer, there’s no use. Sorry won’t bring my family back. It won’t change what has to be done.

I can feelhim watching me, but I don’t dare move.

He somehow dropped the knife he had on the tray, and I hold it close to my chest as I keep my eyes closed. I know he watches me because he has this room covered with cameras and no matter what I do he sees.
