Moving slowly, I take small steps toward her. Her body freezes, watching as I get closer.

“I’ll be fine, kitten.” I grunt. Groaning out loud when I take a seat and the wound stings like a motherfucker.

I cast my eye over her watching as she moves up and inches closer to me.

“You're losing a lot of blood,” she says, matter of fact.

I chuckle. “Yeah, princess, I am.” Because she’s right, I am hurt, and it’s bad.

One of Carlos’ men jumped me as I slit his throat, forcing the knife through my flesh and cutting me up badly on the way out. I’m surprised I made it here without passing out.

It hurts like a bitch, but I’ll never admit that out loud.

“I’ll stitch it up. It won’t be the first time,” I tell her, lifting my hand to run my fingers across her jaw.

Savannah tenses, her entire body frozen.

She inhales as they move across her skin. A breath escapes past her lips as my fingers move down.

“No matter what, you'll always be mine, kitten,” I remind her. Even if this is the last time I see her, she’s mine. Always fucking will be.

Savannah can’t help the smile that creeps across her face.

“You don’t own me, Jacob?”

Still fighting it I see.

Swallowing, I try to slow my breathing.

I give her a wink. “Now would be the time to escape, kitten.” My words have her smile faltering.

“You want me to escape?” she asks as if I have a choice right now. I’ve left the door wide open, something I’ve never done. But then I know what's coming and I can’t live with myself knowing she’d be trapped here with my dead corpse rotting with no way out.

Brushing my fingers down her arm, I feel her shiver, she frowns, her gaze darting past me to the open door.

“Run, princess. Fucking run far away from me because I’ll catch you.” I breathe.

“You want me to leave you here, to die?” she whispers, tears filling her eyes.

I nod once.

It's the right choice. Savannah should get as far away from me as physically possible.

“What if I don’t want to leave, I mean?” she asks. I chuckle, and my gaze finds her.

“Then you’re a stupid girl, Savannah.”

Dipping her eyebrows, she pouts and crosses her arms across her chest.

“You’re an asshole.”

“I’m offering you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here. Run, Savannah. Fucking run.”

My jaw tightens when she lifts herself off the bed. I look down at my hand, coated with my blood. Savannah moves toward the door. She stops, looking over her shoulder at me, our gazes collide, and in that moment, everything fucking changes. I hope she stays, I hope she decides that she wants me because, after everything, one thing is certain.

Savannah. Is. Mine.

Looking back,I know I should keep going, run right out the door, but he’ll die if I do.
