She clings to my neck and kisses me deeply, and then moves my head to rest against her chest.

“I’m so excited,” she says. “I feel like the world is my oyster, and I want to eat it raw! I feel like anything is possible!”

I smile, snuggling against her.

“Why that feeling just now?” I ask.

I can feel it when she shrugs, but she has an amused smile on her lips.

“Because now it is real,” she explains. “Before the wedding, everything seemed like it could crumble at any moment. But now there’s no turning back!”

“I thought Penelope was the point of no return,” I say, joking, but also confused.

“Separated parents can raise a child, Logan, but a marriage is never the same after it’s broken,” Joyce says. “Please let’s keep it this way and stay together, okay?”

“It’s a promise,” I kiss her hand, making a vow here that feels more solemn than the ones we said in front of the priest.

We stay silent for a few moments. I don’t want the night to end just yet, so I’m careful to not fall asleep while I recover my strength for round two.

“Hey?” she shakes me softly. “Are you ready to go again?”

It’s as if she can read my mind.

I perk up the same instant, “Sure!”

I dive into her lips again, now surer than ever that I want to die in the arms of this woman.
