I approach him, climbing on top of him and kissing him with all the passion I can muster.

“I would never ask you to stop loving her, Logan,” I say, looking deep into his eyes. “And I am not jealous of her. I know I can’t compete. All I’m asking of you is to give us your time and attention and love, and we will shower you back with the same.”

He smiles with delight. “Already referring to yourself in plural?”

I raise my eyebrows, realizing that’s precisely what I just did. “Better get used to it, right?”

Logan shakes his head slowly, a smile still on his lips. “Okay,” he continues. “First things first: do we tell Anna, or do we go buy you a ring to make it official?”

“Um,” I take a moment to think, an index finger over my lip.

“Let’s get into the shower, then later we’ll decide. We can’t be anywhere alone without getting naked, can we?”

He snickers, bringing my chest close to his, kissing me like a teen who just discovered that kissing is good.

Chapter Thirty

LOGAN

Nowfullydressedandcomposed, we sit side by side on the couch, with Anna standing right in front of us.

Joyce looks at me, expecting me to get started with everything, and while I don’t blame her — I’m the girl’s father, at the end of the day — all I really want is to hide behind Joyce and let her do the dirty work.

“Did I do something wrong?” Anna asks, collapsing over the ottoman and sounding disappointed with herself.

“No, baby!” I say, leaning forward to try and cheer her up.

“What we have to tell you is a good thing!” Joyce says, her excitement contagious.

Anna perks up, and then sits up straight, paying close attention to me and Joyce. Finally, there’s nowhere for me to run, so I just get started the best I can.

“Well, Anna, remember when you asked me when I would ask Joyce to marry me?”

Joyce looks at me with wide eyes, completely shocked, while Anna’s eyes widen from the merry surprise of a wish come true.

“You were way more ahead on this subject than I expected!” Joyce interjects, giggling with disbelief.

“Did you do it?” Anna stands, hands joined in front of her body.

“Well, not yet,” I say, shrugging. “I still need to buy her a ring.”

“Yay!” Anna jumps around the little ottoman, clapping her hands as if I just informed her that we’re going to Disney World.

I put an arm around Joyce’s shoulders, and she has both hands on her face, looking at me with astonishment and utter disbelief.

“There’s something else we need to tell you, Anna,” Joyce starts, her hands protectively over her stomach.

“What?” Anna halts her enthusiasm for a moment, looking like an adorable puppy distracted by a squirrel.

“You’re getting a baby brother or sister!” Joyce says, just as ecstatic as Anna.

“You’re going to be a mommy?!” Anna jumps to hug Joyce, sitting on her lap. “Daddy, daddy! Can Joyce be my mommy now too?”

“I don’t know,” I say, splaying my palms to the ceiling. “Ask her.”

Anna looks at Joyce, and Joyce looks at Anna, both with eyebrows raised, just waiting for the other’s next move.

Joyce is the one to act first, filling the face of my baby with the purest glee I’ve ever seen when she says, “We can try, honey!”
