Liv squirms underneath me, and digs her nails in my back, screaming into the night her lust and her fire. I seal her mouth with a kiss to avoid the noise and go on pumping, slow to give her time to recover from the last romp, and to build up momentum for what’s about to come next.

She makes me her plaything, grabbing my hair and flipping my head to the side, so she has access to my ears and my neck. All the while, she sighs contained moans that want to be screams, driving me on an upward spiral that put me closer and closer to the edge.

I move faster, and she moves her hips to match. I hear her anguished, muffled screams again, and I know she’s about to explode again, but this time, so am I.

“Are you close?” I whisper in her ear.

“Uh-huh…” she purrs, feverish eyes looking at me with enthralling ardor.

I move even faster now, the pressure inside me building to unbearable levels. But when she buries her face on the curve of my neck and lets out a voiceless scream that vibrates on frequencies only dogs can hear, I let myself flow so deep inside her.

For a long while, all I do is enjoy the scent of her — the citrus of her shampoo, the wildflowers of her perfume, the sweat of her brow, all so delicious and addictive like a supernatural drug.

And then, she reaches for my lips to kiss her. I’m still inside her, and my urges almost reawaken with her gentle caress. But for now, I’ll leave her at that.

I roll to the side and bring her to lie on top of me, still kissing her.

“This was amazing…” Liv says, her lips glued to mine. “You’reveryskilled!”

“Um, thank you,” I say, and going from lustful to tender, I kiss her forehead. “Now tell me…”

Liv pouts, and looks at me with a crooked stance that lets me know I’ll be in trouble no matter what I say, “What, Alex?”

“Um… Now I feel like I shouldn’t say it,” I tell her.

“You can say anything.” She gives me a peck on the lips. “But a moment like this doesn’t need words.”

And in silence we stay, quiet and just enjoying each other’s warmth.

But the one thing I wanted to ask her; she didn’t let me.

I wanted to know if she wanted to be my girlfriend, but apparently, it’s still too early for that.

Chapter Thirteen

LIV

“Dad?”akid’svoiceasks.

It’s no longer dark, but I refuse to open my eyes. I want to sleep more, I want to never leave this man’s side, not that I am ready to tell him that quite yet.

I feel like it’s irrational to let what happened with Jamie affect my budding relationship with Alex, but there is now a very cautious part of me. Anyway, it won’t hurt to take it slow, right?

“Dad?” Harlan continues, knocking on the door so politely that for a moment I believe there’s an adult on the other side.

“Dad, I want cereal.”

I yawn, louder than I intended, finally open my eyes, and watch as Alex sleeps. He’s very peaceful, fast asleep, so I feel bad waking him up.

“Daddy, time to wake up,” I say, gently shaking him.

It takes him a moment to situate himself back into the world of the living. Alex rolls away from me, stretches, and then hears Harlan call, “Dad?”

“What, buddy?” he says, his voice thick with sleep.

“I want cereal!” the boy repeats, getting impatient, and opens the door to find his dad.

Harlan looks at us, confused but not shocked. This kid is incredible at keeping his cool, but I’m nervous wondering how he feels about me being here.
