He laughed at her excitement. “Yes. I think it would be fun to see how well we work together. Do you want to try?”

Oh boy, didshe! She was already thinking of the items they’d found at the old sewing mill this morning. Once the pieces were cleaned up and repaired, she thought they’d look great in this building

“Absolutely, I want to try. This’ll be a fun project.”

He walked her through the other floors of the building. “I’d envisioned the architectural firm would eventually be on the second floor leaving the first floor available for rental space. The third floor is going to be for the demolition company. As we grow, they will need more than the little offices they currently have on the first floor. The fourth and fifth floors are up for grabs.”

There was an old service elevator in the building that could still be used. He wouldn’t want his clients using that, so an elevator would have to be installed, as well as better hand railings in compliance with ADA requirements. The spaces were large; it could be fun working with Gray on this.

“Well, you and your people can handle the zoning requirements, ADA, and inspections. I just get to do the fun stuff. I already have some ideas. How do we get this rolling? Do you want to hear my ideas or do you want to give me a list of requirements or no-no’s first?”

He laughed. And the first thoughts flitting through her mind were that she wanted to make him laugh all the time. As they continued walking around the second floor, Sam shared some of her ideas for the items they found today.

“Where do you intend to refinish those items, Sam?”

She thought for a moment. “Do you think those bookcases will fit in my garage? Theyarequite large.”

“Follow me.” They went back up to the fourth floor. “How about right here? There’s plenty of room. You can use the service elevator to bring the pieces up and then to take them back down when they’re finished. You’ll have people here to help you if you need to move something around or out of the way. And, the bonus is, I can come up here and see you when I want to.”

“Oh, ulterior motives!” She giggled. “It does seem like a good idea. Nothing is finished up here, so I won’t be messing anything up. When do you think they’ll start moving the pieces out of the old building? I’ll need to get up here and clean a little before they bring them in.”

“Why don’t we go down and see if Jax is still here and we can ask him,” Gray said.

They spoke with Jax for a while. He thought it would be about three or four weeks before they’d start bringing things in. Permits had to be applied for, and it took that long to get the ball rolling. Sam had refinishing supplies at home that she would bring with her, and of course, Gray insisted on buying anything that she needed. By the time they were finished at the office, it was almost time for supper. They left with a wave to Jax and the remaining employees and climbed into Gray’s SUV. Once they were on the road, he reached over and grabbed her hand and pulled it up to his lips for a kiss. Sam smiled.

Gray said, “I really enjoyed today with you, Sam. Thank you for making my day great.”

“Thank you for allowing me to tag along. I enjoyed it immensely.” She was getting the feeling no one had ever treated Gray like he mattered.

Back at Gray’s house, they settled on the sofa with a glass of wine. Neither of them was hungry so they thought a little downtime and relaxing would be nice. Gray turned on the stereo system. Sam leaned back into the sofa with her feet up on the coffee table, and Gray did the same right next to her. He reached over and held her hand, and they sat listening to music for a few more songs. It was nice, peaceful, and comfortable.

After a while, Gray sat up and turned to look at Sam.

“Would you like to go riding tomorrow? The weather is supposed to be warm, might even get into the seventies. We can dress warm and stop as often as we need to.”

Sam smiled. “That sounds great.”

“You said you didn’t mind, so I hoped you would ride with me. I want to be able to touch you and talk to you a little while we ride.”

“Perfect. I’ll need to go home and get warmer clothes and my boots and jacket, though.”

Gray leaned forward, took her wineglass from her hand, and set it on the table. He grabbed her up and put her in his lap and kissed her. His full lips on hers felt so perfect. She slid her arms around his shoulders and up into his hair. When they needed air, Gray pulled away from her mouth to her cheek, her jaw, and down her neck. When he got to her ear, he nibbled and licked the outer shell before he lightly licked inside.

“Are you hungry, Sam? I can make us something to eat.”

“You’re hungry?”

He chuckled a little. “No, I just thought I would ask, so I wasn’t being rude.”

“Good, because after that kiss I wondered why you were thinking about food.”

Gray picked her up and carried her to the bedroom where he laid her on the bed.

He rasped, “Get undressed completely and kneel in the center of the bed. I’ll be right back.”

He walked into his closet, and she could hear drawers opening and closing. She undressed, still embarrassed about being naked in front of him. She thought about climbing under the covers and waiting for him to come back. He returned before she could do anything, and he frowned at her.

“You’re supposed to be kneeling in the center of the bed.”
