They clinked glasses and sipped their champagne as each member of the family joined them.

When they arrived at the event, Gray held out his arm for Sam, and they walked in with everyone following behind them. They were greeted at the door, given their table assignment and told that dinner would be in an hour and a half. They stood chatting as a group after getting drinks, and she was introduced to many of his business acquaintances and clients.

Suddenly, Jamie muttered, “What thefuckis she doing here?”

They turned to see it was none other than Suzanne. Fuck is right! Both Ethan and Jax shrugged—then took that moment to excuse themselves saying they saw someone they knew. Ethan dragged Eva with him. How convenient!

Suzanne was a beautiful woman—about five-foot-nine and slender with shoulder-length blonde hair and light blue eyes. She wore a floor-length red gown and bright red pumps. As soon as she arrived at their group, she was overly friendly. She said hello to everyone then looked at Sam.

Gray introduced them, and Sam shook her hand.

“Oh Sam, did you see the picture of Gray and me with Lily?”

Sam smiled. “I sure did; it’s a nice picture.”

Suzanne looked up at Gray and beamed.

She wrapped her arms around Gray’s arm and said, “Sam, you don’t mind if I introduce Gray to a couple of potential clients here, do you?”

Sam started to open her mouth when Gray spoke up first.

“Don’t start your crap, Suzanne.”

She grinned widely at Gray. “What crap? It could be big business. If you prefer, we could catch Sam up on the Grandparents Day recital or did you already tell her all about it?”

“Sam!”

Everyone turned to see who was yelling Sam's name.

She smiled and responded. “Oh, my God! Nate, how are you?”

Nate was a hulk of a man, about six-foot-one and carried three hundred pounds or so. He didn't have a neck—just a large head, and he wore his sandy blond hair short cropped and gelled up on top. His sparkly blue eyes with long, dark lashes gave the impression of happiness, and he wore a large smile on his face. He busted right between Suzanne and Dani and grabbed Sam in a bear hug and spun her around.

“Woo-wee, girl, you look stunning! You clean up good!”

Sam laughed and tried catching her balance as he set her on her feet. Gray reached out to steady her so she wouldn't fall.

“Nate, I didn't expect to see you here. You look amazing! Wow, who knew YOU could clean up so good!”

Laughing, she looked at Gray and introduced him.

“Gray, this is Nate—Nathan Johns. Nate, this is Grayson Kinkaide, my boyfriend.”

Nate and Gray shook hands.

“Nate, let me introduce you to everyone else here. This is Dani and Nick Harper, Gray’s sister and brother-in-law. Jamie Kinkaide is Gray's brother. And Suzanne, Gray’s ex-wife.”

Nate shook hands with everyone, and his eyes narrowed at Suzanne who kept trying to wrap her armsaround Gray's arm. He would pull away, but she went right back at him. Nate looked back at Sam and raised his eyebrows in question. She shrugged and frowned.

“Nate and I used to work together. Then he got too big for his britches and decided to move on. He now runs a small airline here in Harmony.”

Sam turned to Nate. “Still like it?”

His large infectious smile displayed white straight teeth, the front tooth slightly chipped in the corner. “I love it! You know, my offer still stands. I would love it if you would come and work with me. We’re a great team!”

She smiled. “I’ll keep that in mind. I'm good for now, but you know how attorneys can get under your skin. I may just take you up on it one day.”

“Little Bit, I would hire you anytime you decide it’s time to come on over, seriously.”
