Leilani ended the call and looked up to find everyone had left except Angel. “It’s over, she said.

He held open his arms,

Leilani threw herself into them. The danger was past. Which meant she wouldn’t need twenty-four-seven protection.

“You’ll be leaving soon,” she said softly.

“Not until the end of the week,” he said. “Unless you want me to move out now.”

She clung to him. “No. I want you to stay.”Forever.

But Angel had a job to go to on the Big Island.

And Leilani had a business to rebuild on Maui. Yeah, she’d thought for a moment about selling everything and moving on.

Her afternoon with Angel exploring Maui had reminded her of how much she loved her home.

On the other hand, if she sold everything, she could be open to moving around. She could go to the Big Island and potentially be with Angel.

With Angel’s departure from Maui looming, Leilani refused to waste a single minute.

She was so close to one hundred percent. She wasn’t ready to give up, nor was she ready to let go.

She just hoped Angel felt the same.

CHAPTER14

The next fewdays passed in a busy haze for Leilani. Not far from her thoughts was Angel’s pending departure. His days on Maui were coming to an end.

On the last night of his stay, Leilani took him and his three friends to an event she couldn’t get out of and didn’t want to. She’d been looking forward to this party for a month. It was to be a reunion of people from Lahaina, bringing together those who were still on Maui who’d been displaced when they’d lost their homes.

Leilani couldn’t wait to see old friends she hadn’t spoken to in months. There would be traditional Hawaiian music and dancing, as well as a DJ for later in the evening.

Kiana had helped her find another dress in the lost and found. This one was a beautiful tropical print, strapless dress that hugged her breasts and hips, the hem stopping at mid-thigh, exposing her knees and calves and making her legs appear longer.

She’d pulled her hair up into a messy bun on top of her head, leaving long tendrils loose around her ears.

When she stepped out of the bathroom, Angel let out a long, low whistle. “Wow,” he said. “I like this dress even more than the white one. It showcases your Hawaiian features.”

She smiled. “That’s what I loved most about it. I feel like it’s me, ready to celebrate.” She leaned up on her toes and kissed him. “I can’t think of anyone I’d rather celebrate with than you.”

“Same.” He kissed her back, then looked around. “Got your purse and phone?”

Kiana had loaned her a crossbody purse in a sparkling silver with a silver chain strap. She started to put her phone in the purse, but Angel laid his hand over hers holding the phone. “This is my last night on Maui. I don’t know exactly what will happen when I report to our headquarters on the Big Island, but I’d like to know you’re okay when I can’t be with you.”

She frowned up at him. “We can always text.”

“I want you to have my phone location. That way, you’ll know where I am. I always have my phone with me.”

“I’d like that.” She held up her cell phone. “Do you want to be able to track my phone location?”

His lips widened into a grin. “I was hoping you’d offer. I didn’t want to come off as a stalker.”

Her cheeks heated. “I like knowing you can find me wherever I am. It will make me feel like you’re still with me. How do we share our locations?”

He pulled out his phone. They spent a few minutes changing their settings to allow each other to find their phones wherever they were.

Angel brought up the app that displayed a pin for each of their phones. “See? We’re together on the map.”
